Internship Regional Gender Justice Programme

RGJP Background Oxfam’s Regional Gender Justice Programme (RGJP) was established in 2009 to promote gender justice and women’s rights in the Middle East and North Africa region. The RGJP aims at supporting women, in particular poor and marginalised women, to realize, voice their rights and enjoy a life free from violence. The RGJP links direct assistance to poor women with national, regional and global advocacy and campaigning work. Advocacy work at the RGJP is informed by research. The RGJP has more than 30 partners across the region – RGJP’s partnership-based approach acknowledges the added value contributed by national partners, and promotes trust and mutual support. The RGJP work specifically on three pillars: Women’s Access to Justice (WAJ) Women’s Political Participation (WPP) Ending Violence against Women and Girls (eVAWG) Background on Oxfam Knowledge Fund Project: Project Title: Documenting the most successful influencing strategies to end Violence against Women and Girls in MENA (Asia or Africa) The project’s aim is to foster learning and South-South exchange between: MENA and a second region (East Africa or Asia – depending on available opportunities) on effective influencing strategies to eVAWG and GBV. The project will document through videos, case studies and stories, the effective influencing strategies developed by WROs and survivors of VAW, all findings will be highlighted in one book at the end of the project. This project will look at successful campaigns, advocacy and policy work that have led to eVAWG and GBV and will identify the key elements of success. The case studies will be used to inform the work on eVAWG as well as prepare for the upcoming Oxfam Global eVAWG campaign, especially in relation to the work in MENA. Additionally opportunities for replication and upscale of promising practices and lessons learned will be identified to enhance programme quality. This project will further help the wider confederation in the generation of new knowledge on influencing and campaigning work to eVAWG. Duties and responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the Advocacy officer, the intern will support the implementation of the Oxfam Knowledge Fund project through research and data collection and analysis of the countries that will be featured in the learning exchange. The assignment will include: Research, collect and analyze up-to date data on the prevalence and types of Violence against women and girls (as well as other minority groups such as LGBTQI) in the countries that will be part of the learning exchange Prepare a one pager fact-sheet gathering the most important and recent killer facts that will be included in the videos/blogs and final publication Prepare an updated regional profile with a general overview on VAWG and its different forms The intern is also expected to strengthen her/his knowledge and understanding of various concepts on gender justice and her/his knowledge on VAWG. Assist advocacy officer with necessary logistics and coordination with country offices and other organisations for to carry out filming and documentation Perform other duties as required.  Specific deliverables: Updated fact-sheet on prevalence and types of VAWG in every country featured in learning exchange Regional overview of VAWG (similarities and differences between regions) Set of killer facts for each country – to use as info graphics and include in videos and blogs  Learning opportunities for the intern: General understanding of the work and mission of Oxfam Regional Gender Justice Programme, the role of stakeholders and partners at national and global level Acquiring specific knowledge and understanding on gender justice issues in Middle East, especially on Violence against women and girls. Acquiring knowledge of VAWG and eVAWG in Middle East and other regions (Africa or Asia) Insight and hands-on experience in developing policy document and online campaigning work on GJ Becoming more familiar with working in an International Non-Governmental Organization Compensation:  The Internship Programme operates on a non-remunerative basis however; Oxfam will cover intern’s expense related to his transportation and lunch covering working hours. Management: The intern will be line managed by the Advocacy Officer under the overall guidance of the Middle East Gender Justice Lead. Education: Completed undergraduate degree (Bachelor) / current enrolment in a Masters Degree or equivalent Field of study: Gender and Development-related fields such as economics, international relations, anthropology, sociology, public or business administration, or environmental studies. Other fields of study may be considered depending on the type of assignment; Language skills: Written and spoken proficiency in English and Arabic; Previous experience in: research and analysis Demonstrated interest in the field of gender justice, development and the work of international organisations; Enthusiastic about contributing to advance gender justice and women’s rights and ready to learn;  Good oral and written communications skills and demonstrated research abilities and interest  Internet proficiency as well as proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) is required.
