Primary Health Care Program Pharmacist - Akkar Region

The pharmacist will work under the direct supervision of the Health Area Manager and also reports to the Deputy Health Coordinator. S/he is a member of the medical team which includes the Medical Coordinator, The Medical Consultant, the senior health officers per area and Health field offices. 1-Manage medication and medical supplies requests, consumption and donations for all IMC supported PHC Centers and Mobile Medical Units (MMUs). She/he is required to: Conduct regular visits to the supported clinics to ensure delivered pharmaceuticals and medical supplies donated are available, properly dispensed, and managed. Supervise and train pharmacy assistants in the supported clinic and MMUs. All topics related to medications, pharmacy management stock control, generating stock lists, and the proper handling of medicines. Capacity building of the PHC centers supported by IMC mainly to the pharmacist assistants. The pharmacist will help building the capacity the clinic staff  including proper submission of medication requests to MOPH on a quarterly basis and addendum requests (in case initial delivery is insufficient) to avoid stock outs and decrease reliance on IMC donated medication Follow up and management of the medical stock with specific tools (MOPH Health information system (HIS) software). This includes following up on MOPH medication stockouts and ensuring that the proper steps are being taken by the clinic staff to communicate medication needs to the MOPH PHC Area Coordinator   Coordinate the donation process with clinic staff and the logistics department (Pharmacy Manager) Monthly physical inventory for the PHC centers to ensure that the numbers correspond to those on the HIS (when possible and if needed), highlighting near expiry medication to avoid waste Prepare GIOs for all clinics based on needs reported in consumption reports and on a monthly basis ensuring a one-month buffer stock to avoid shortages Checking a sample of prescriptions each month in coordination with the medical advisor to ensure rational drug use Check out prescriptions randomly and work on promoting utilization of generics and national essential list of medication Conduct needs assessment in order to Prepare purchase requests for medications, supplies, and equipment in close coordination with the Deputy Health Coordinator and the respective Area Manager Follow-up on expired drugs and destroyed material, quantification and their subsequent destruction. Train pharmacists at the supported facilities on rational use of drugs Ensue  hygiene and security procedures in the Clinic pharmacy warehouse or office Ensure that temperature, humidity, light exposition are in accordance with products in the pharmacy especially ensure cold chain functioning and maintenance and ensure storage conditions according to MOPH quality standards Ensure proper storage of vaccines Any other relevant activities needed from the Health department should be done on time. 2-Monitor the implementation of the chronic medication program (YMCA) Ensure Bi-weekly follow up with all dispensaries and health facilities receiving medication through IMC implementing partners. Ensure availability of medication and buffer stock at all clinics by close coordination with the clinic’s pharmacy staff Make sure all clinics send requests on a quarterly basis to receive donationfrom YMCA stressing on follow up to request addendums on to avoid stock outs Follow up with sample chronic patients on receiving their medication Conduct field visits to a number of clinics. 3- Reporting Preparing medication related reports to be submitted to the Monitoring and Evaluation Department on a monthly basis (shared with the area managers) These include: Stock consumption, Patient demographics, Qualitative report dealing with monthly updates Preparing a work plan for quality improvement of the pharmacy units at supported clinics based on selected MOPH quality standards (report to be shared with the Area Manager upon request)
