Midwife A

Follows all relevant Health department policies, processes, standard operating procedures and instructions so that work is carried out in a controlled and consistent manner; Provides maternal health/family planning services to ensure readiness of patients before referrals; Examines pregnant women after initial visits through antenatal period to assess the health condition of the patient and whether she requires a referral to the Medical Officer/ Gynecologist; Provides advice on postnatal services at the health centre, when needed, to ensure continuous provision of maternal services; pays postnatal home visits to check on the health status of mother and child; follows up on defaulters; Advises families on birth spacing and family planning to ensure the well being and health of all family members; Supports the staff nurse in family planning sessions to ensure consistency of advice given; educates groups and individuals on various issues with regards to family planning, maternity and child care; Provides preconception care to ensure safe pregnancies; Performs breast examination for pregnant women and other suspected cases; Inserts Intra Uterine Device (IUD) and performs periodic checkups after insertion and takes vaginal swabs for laboratory testing; Assists in the provision of child health services and completion of records relevant to the provision of these services; Complies with all relevant safety, quality, health and environmental procedures to ensure a healthy and safe work environment; Reviews and analyzes reports related to maternal health, and shares information on research and  related studies in order to help provide optimal care to patients; Maintains a high standard of infection control to ensure safety of staff and clients; Performs such other duties and assignments as may be required.
