Chemonics seeks a Microcredit Component Leader for the anticipated USAID-funded Livelihoods and Inclusive Finance Expansion (LIFE) project in Lebanon. The purpose of the project is to improve economic opportunities and livelihoods of low income individuals and microenterprises in Lebanon by expanding and strengthening microfinance associations’ and member institutions’ services and enhancing entrepreneurs’ business skills. LIFE will improve livelihoods, strengthen microfinance activities and advance inclusive finance. The primary objective of LIFE’s Microcredit component is to support microfinance institutions (MFIs) and the Lebanese Microfinance Association improve and increase microcredit products and services for microenterprises and entrepreneurs in niche markets, where access to credit is not readily available. Specifically, the Microcredit Component Leader will assist MFIs in by providing technical assistance that is essential for developing products which target high-risk categories of potential borrowers.
Responsibilities include:
Work with the program’s Chief of Party to implement LIFE’s microcredit objectives
Liaise closely with other component leaders to ensure overall project excellence
Provide substantial project technical direction in microcredit product design and development, outreach strategies, MFI sustainability, and MFI policies and procedures development
Work closely with microfinance institutions and their beneficiaries as well as with the Lebanese Microfinance Association
Supervise program staff to ensure appropriate strategy implementation
Ensure that all activities comply with applicable USAID and Chemonics policies, practices, and procedures
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, development, economics, or international relations; Master’s degree is preferred
Minimum 5 years’ experience developing innovative, pro-poor microcredit products and advising microfinance institutions on best practices
Minimum 5 years’ experience on projects with similar magnitude and complexity in developing countries
Demonstrated expertise in product development, fundraising for microfinance institutions, outreach, and financial institution policies and procedures
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
Excellent English and Arabic language skills, both written and spoken, are required
Experience managing international donor contracts and agreements; experience managing USAID contracts and agreements preferred
Demonstrated leadership, integrity, and versatility
