ROLE PURPOSE: As a member of the Education in Emergencies team, the Education Assistant will be responsible for implementing the Education in Emergencies programme under the supervision of the Education Officer with guidance from the Education Coordinator and/or PM as required. The Education Assistant will work towards ensuring that the programme is of a high technical quality, that monitoring processes are in place, that timely reporting occurs, and that the programme is continually assessed and solutions quickly put should there be a change in context.
SCOPE OF ROLE:

Staff directly reporting to this post: No direct reports although this staff will be a focal point between the programme and implementing communities. The Education Assistants are expected to monitor and supervise the teachers in their allocated sites on a regular basis.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Programme Implementation Support
Facilitate the implementation of the Education in Emergencies programme (particularly /community-based and non-formal education) under the supervision of the Education Officer, ensuring smooth exchange between the SC Education Team, beneficiaries and the (education) community and providing technical support as needed.
Contributing for ongoing field assessments and data collection as required.
With the Education in Emergencies team, contribute to establishing and implementing operational work plans, setting clear targets and activity plans per school/programme site
Communicate the targets, programme objectives and activity plans clearly to the stakeholders, focal points, teachers, parents and children, ensuring they are well understood.
Liaise on a daily basis with stakeholders, communities, schools (focal points/supervisors, teachers etc.) and Save the Children supervisors and colleagues to guarantee the smooth operation of the programmes.
Work directly in the field with children (3-5 years old), families and other stakeholders of the programme location/s.
Provide information and advise beneficiaries on existing education and social services, referring them to partners and other agencies when required.
Ensure active learning methodologies are included in the implementation of activities.
Promote the safety and wellbeing of all children in the educational centers.
Assure a healthy, safe, clean and developmentally appropriate environment for children, and address any unsafe practices appropriately.
Plan and carry out experiences that foster an understanding of a variety of cultures and value systems.
Ensure positive communication with parents/caregivers and teachers.
Assist in the organisation and implementation of awareness sessions for children, parents and communities at large.
Willing to be trained and become a TOT (training of trainers) member for facilitating training on relevant topics of the programme especially for the parents and teachers.
Lead on community outreach activities and assist in the organisation and implementation of trainings, workshops and conducting focus group discussions effectively.
Plan, coordinate and facilitate in distribution of teaching and learning materials including stationeries and school bags etc.
Facilitate, collect and report information regarding the overall situation of the Syrian refugee children and their families in the community, with specific attention paid to the programme targeted children and programme objectives. Inform the direct supervisor about any difficulty met in the activities implementation.
Ensure a strict adherence to the principles of Child Protection at all times, including respect for confidentiality and a child centred approach and to act in the best interests of the child.
Monitoring and Evaluation
Participate in regular monitoring and evaluation activities of the Education in Emergencies programme.
Produce timely reports for internal use on the activities in each site/school, highlighting challenges, best practices and lessons learnt.
Ensure that data is accurately collected on a weekly and monthly basis.
Maintain records, reports problems or concerns to Education Field Officer.
Support quality implementation of the education activities through regular visits to the community centers and schools learning spaces
Adherence to Save the Children policies and procedures
Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
In agreement with your line manager, perform other duties within reason (in line with your skills and experience)
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
At least two years’ experience in education, preferably in an (I) NGO environment or educational setting. Prior teaching experience is an asset.
Bachelor’s degree in Education, Development/Humanitarian Studies or Social Science.
Understanding of national development issues, in particular in relation to children and education, and government institutions, particularly the public school.
Ability to analyse information, evaluate options and to plan strategically.
Strength in interpersonal, communication and presentation skills.
Fluency in written and spoken Arabic, good written and spoken English. French is an asset.
Flexibility and willingness to change work practices and hours and capability to work in insecure volatile environment.
Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s aims, values and principles including rights-based approaches.
