Position: Social Media Officer
Reports to: ABAAD Director
ABAAD is a non-profit, non-politically affiliated, and non-confessional association that aims to achieve gender equality and justice as an essential condition for sustainable social and economic development in the MENA region. ABAAD seeks to promote women’s equality and participation through policy development, gender mainstreaming, engaging men, eliminating all forms of gender based violence and discrimination, and advancing and empowering women to participate effectively and fully in their communities. ABAAD also works with local and international civil society organizations to support actors that are involved in gender-related interventions and campaigns.
Function & Purpose
The Social Media Officer is directly responsible for promoting ABAAD’s visibility (image/brand) successfully and resourcefully on all social media outlets (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn) and update of ABAAD website. S/he will ensure that ABAAD’s mission, vision, values and activities are well known and appreciated by the public and main stakeholders.
S/he is responsible for planning, implementing and measuring ABAAD’s visibility, and campaigns on social media. S/he will coordinate with all of the departments and programs within ABAAD at both strategic and tactical levels to build up ABAAD’s reputation and brand identity on social media.
The Social Media Officer will work closely with the Media & PR Associate to ensure harmonious implementation of all campaigns and ABAAD news and updates, off-line and online.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities The Social Media’s main responsibilities and duties are:
- Manage ABAAD’s social media accounts - Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn - with the aim of raising awareness about the organization’s work and values while encouraging individuals, groups and communities to collaborate with ABAAD
- To work directly with the Media & PR Associate and implement the social media component of each campaign as per the Communication plan developed in collaboration with the program teams and management
- Promote ABAAD’s gender-related messaging and campaigns through the full range of available social media channels
- Identify opportunities to increase ABAAD’s visibility on social media (image/brand)
- Represent ABAAD at specific related meetings and events, as needed
- Answer all inquiries generated by audiences (followers, etc) on social media outlets
- Measure the impact and value of all social media campaigns and activities and provide adequate recommendations
- Monitor and research the concerns and expectations of ABAAD’s partners and stakeholders and share accordingly the findings to the PR & Media Associate and the Management
- Assist in preparing infographs to share on social media outlets
- Assist in promoting and disseminating quality information on ABAAD’s produced resources and services on a regular basis and as needed
- Assist, whenever needed, in the coordination and the management of ABAAD’s publication activities such as content management, norms for publishing, design, etc.
- Conduct regular communications, visibility and marketing needs assessments and research for ABAAD
- Assist in the development, supervision, and maintenance of ABAAD’s website, periodical newsletters and other social media mediums
- Coordinate with all ABAAD’s project team members to ensure that all activities are properly documented and subsequently publish them on various social networking and media sites
The successful candidate will be:
- Required to make sound judgments regularly within agreed processes and frameworks using a good understanding of the socio-political and cultural context and sensitivities in Lebanon and the MENA region
- Expected to activate and maintain dynamic and interactive communication channels, especially related to social media and mainstream media
- Expected to make trips to the field, as necessary, both in Lebanon and in Syria, to ensure proper documentation of scheduled activities, while ensuring to adhere to the necessary confidentiality and ethical standards
- Expected to handle inventorying information, education, and communication (IEC) materials and collects feedback
- Expected to ensure proper digital and printed documentation of activities, and contributes to the periodic monitoring projects as well as learning reviews
- Expected to stay updated on the situation in Lebanon, Syria, and MENA region at large and communicates updates to team, with specific emphasis on team security
Education Requirements
University Degree in Marketing, Journalism, Media, Public Relations, or a relevant field
Relevant courses in marketing, social marketing, branding, fundraising, public relations etc.
Skills Requirements
A minimum of 3 years practical experience in managing social media accounts for an organization
An established record of accomplishment in marketing planning and management
Knowledge and understanding of NGOs and nonprofits and the gender and rights based approach
Experience in GBV programming is a plus
An ability to be proactive in developing plans, activities and relationships with stakeholders
Experience with the use of IT, online and social media tools to advance organizational communications and visibility goals
Fluency in written and spoken English, French and Arabic. Additional languages are an asset
Preferred Qualities
Strong personal commitment to the mission, vision and values of ABAAD mainly related to gender issues
Superior inter-personal communication skills including the ability to work with multi-cultural teams and groups
Ability to influence individuals and groups through the use of diplomacy, negotiation and strategy
Ability to achieve goals and meet deadlines
Self-motivated, intelligent, articulate, detail-oriented and able to manage and complete multiple tasks and assignments
Strong team and collaborative work skills
Excellent strategic thinking enhanced with ability to achieve results
