External Relations Internship (Unpaid) – Int022 - Tripoli

   The impact of the Syrian crisis on Lebanon has been profound. With over 1 million uprooted Syrians now living among a national population of more than 4 million, Lebanon today has the highest per capita concentration of refugees in the world. At the onset of the Syrian emergency, refugees started fleeing neighboring Syria through Lebanon’s northern borders, settling first along the border in Akkar, where relief efforts were initially focused. Many continued further South to arrive in the northern capital of Tripoli from where they often dispersed to its five adjacent districts– referred to as "T5". In order to establish a link with the refugee communities scattered in various geographical locations, UNHCR and partners have established an outreach system through Community Development Centers (CDCs), Social Development Centers (SDCs) and Refugee Outreach Volunteers (ROVs) to provide support and identify vulnerable refugees with specific needs and refer them to existing services to strengthen community-based protection, UNHCR is enhancing its outreach capacity and also seeks ways of establish networks between various stakeholders including universities, local associations, youth groups and various organizations active and operational across the North. External relations remain an utmost priority to ensure that the linkages with various organizations are dynamics, regular and consistent so as to seek complementarity and join efforts in addressing the needs of the most vulnerable communities To this end the support of an internship is required to ensure a dedicated capacity in maintaining and strengthening day to day external relations, maintaining update list of contact and consolidate monthly snapshots of activities and initiatives which can facilitate UNHCR in converging its multi-sectoral contributions into a consistent external relations communication, especially when related to universities, university clubs, local initiatives and students’ activities.   Accountability (key results that will be achieved)   - In coordination with the different sectors, mapping of existing capacities and initiatives among various stakeholders including universities, university clubs, youth groups, local and charity organizations.   - Develop a roadmap and communication plan to enhance engagement of these groups in the humanitarian response, enhancing outreach networks with a specific focus on universities and students.   Responsibility (process and functions undertaken to achieve results)   - Assist the Head of Sub Office and the External Relations/Public Information Unit in North SO in developing a road map for enhancing relationship with various groups and outreaching communities.   - Maintain and update the mapping of local groups and initiatives, including local associations, youth groups and universities, university clubs, students and active personnel;   - Develop and maintain updated list of contacts for future references and interaction among UNHCR and these groups.   - Assist in developing and maintaining synergies among UNHCR and various groups.   - Assist in organizing events and developing small initiatives that facilitate the outreach of the communities.   - Develop reports and briefs on various groups initiatives   - Note taking of various events

Education: Currently enrolled or completed an undergraduate degree (Bachelor) in Social Science International Affairs, Political Science or related fields.
- Current enrolment in a Master’s degree or equivalent is a plus.
