The HLP and Civil Documentation in Syria Research project is a regional, coordinated research project that aims to learn more about displaced Syrians' access to their rights in Syria. The project focuses on access to Housing, Land, and Property (HLP) rights, as well as the right to legal identity and nationality, for Syrians currently displaced in Lebanon, Jordan, and Iraq. Using a household questionnaire, the research aims to gain a further systematic understanding of these rights with the goal of understanding how access to and the denial of fundamental legal rights affect all stages of displacement. Analysis of the data collected as part of the project will provide information on property rights institutions in Syria prior to and during the conflict, as well as a granular data on access to civil documentation, protection from statelessness, and the right to nationality following displacement.
