Irrigation / Conservation Advisor

                      Lebanon Water Project (LWP)   Scope of Work   Irrigation / Conservation Advisor, Long Term Position   Background:   The USAID-funded Lebanon Water Project (LWP) is a five year project that works to increase reliable and sustainable access to potable water for Lebanese citizens; improve water management practices and enhance the efficiency and sustainability of public water utilities, while raising awareness on sustainable water use practices and promote better water governance to help assure long-term protection of Lebanon’s water resources.   General Objective:   The Irrigation/Conservation Advisor will work with the Water Resources Management and Protection Team Lead to support the project’s irrigation management services work. S/he will help promote more efficient irrigation technology, as well as identify and pilot new conservation techniques appropriate for Lebanon.   Responsibilities:   With the Water Resources Management and Protection Team Lead, engage with farmers, water utilities, and agricultural associations on issues related to irrigation, water use in agriculture, and water conservation. Work with irrigation equipment suppliers to ensure farmers have support to transition to new technologies. Liaise with farmers and agricultural associations in selected areas of intervention on water use in irrigation and water conservation. Partner with utilities to understand irrigation needs and water challenges. Help design and implement irrigation and conservation activities. Work closely with other donor-funded programs to identify, develop, and promote innovative technology. Coordinate with the private sector engagement team to support the piloting of new technologies to increase the efficiency of water use in agriculture. Other tasks as assigned.   Qualifications:   3 to 5 years of experience working in the areas of service delivery, water resource management, agriculture, and/or water conservation. Familiarity with the Litani River Authority and/or regional water establishments in Lebanon. Previous experience working with new technology adoption. Demonstrated      project management experience, including in international development . At      least a Bachelor’s degree in natural resources management, agriculture,      engineering, or related field. Preferable      advanced degree in water resources management, agricultural engineering,      infrastructure engineering, or similar field. Strong      teamwork and effective cross-cultural interpersonal skills. Demonstrated      communications and presentation skills.
