Background
ACTED is an International humanitarian NGO, founded in 1993, which supports vulnerable populations, affected by humanitarian crises worldwide. ACTED provides continued support to vulnerable communities by ensuring the sustainability of post-crisis interventions and engaging long-term challenges facing our target populations, in order to break the poverty cycle, foster development and reduce vulnerability to disasters. Our interventions seek to cover the multiple aspects of humanitarian and development crises through a multidisciplinary approach which is both global and local, and adapted to each context. Our 4 000 staff is committed in to responding to emergencies worldwide, to supporting recovery and rehabilitation, towards sustainable development.
Our teams in the field implement some 380 projects in 34 countries covering the following sectors emergency relief, food security, access to health, education and training, economic development, microfinance, advocacy, institutional support, and regional dialogue, cultural promotion.
Assignment
The Information Officer, under the supervision of the Field Coordinator(s) and Assessment Officer, is responsible for collecting assessment data relevant to REACH assessments. This includes data collection and support to data entry where necessary. He/she will be based in the field.
1. Data Collection and Data Entry
The Information Officer will carry out field data collection and office-based data entry for the relevant REACH assessment as required by the Assessment Officer. The Information Officer’s responsibilities will include:
- Collecting data and information in the field through interviews of key informants and community members, focus group discussions, field visits and surveys, in line with the REACH Assessment Methodology;
- Carrying out debriefing sessions with assessment participants upon completion of data collection;
- Ensuring transparent, accurate and timely collection of quantitative and qualitative data and information;
- Supporting geo-referencing of all surveys conducted in the field as required by the REACH Assessment Methodology;
- Cross-checking information accuracy in adherence with REACH data checking guidelines to ensure correct data entry; this includes direct follow-up with assessment participants where necessary;
- Entering collected data accurately into REACH database using smartphones;
- Communicating data collection activities to assessment participants according to data collection plan; maintaining effective relationships with assessment participants.
2. Reporting
The Information Officer is also required to report information from the field accurately to the Field Coordinators and Assessment Officer. In regards to reporting, the Information Officer will be responsible for:
- Providing daily reports to the Field Coordinator on the progress of the implementation of the assessment activities and on relevant observations during the mission;
- Transcribing accurately responses from primary data collection (interviews and focus group discussions) and provide English transcriptions to Field Coordinator when returning from the field;
- Communicating any issues encountered during data collection immediately to Field Coordinator
3. Other tasks
- Participating in weekly and monthly data collection planning meetings;
- Assisting Field Coordinator in maintaining system of data records;
- Assisting Assessment Officer in translating questionnaires from English to Arabic.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/SKILLS
- Fluent in written and spoken Arabic and English
- High School diploma
- Previous experience working for a humanitarian organization and/or work experience in data collection desirable
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, demonstrated ability to pro-actively engage assessment participants and form effective relationships
- High ability to adapt to field setting; motivation to work in a challenging environment requiring personal flexibility
- Strong team player of high integrity; communicates constructively with co-workers and managers and responds positively to instructions and procedures; coordinates own work with others and reflects own work within overall context of project and team’s work; willing to undertake additional responsibilities; contributes to a collegial team environment; demonstrates a high level of personal commitment to team’s work
- Performs assigned tasks in a timely and consistent manner
- Demonstrates attention to detail: follows detailed procedures and ensures accuracy in documentation and data; concentrates on routine work details; approaches tasks in an organized and structured manner

Accountability to Communities and Beneficiaries
The Information Officer is responsible for ensuring that all relations with the communities we work are conducted in a respectful and consultative manner. Due attention must be paid to ensuring that communities are adequately consulted and informed about ACTED programme objectives, activities, and methodologies. This is the responsibility of every REACH staff member.
