We are looking for a highly motivated new Area Database officer to support database and IM management in the Bekaa office. Who are weThe Danish Refugee Council has worked in Lebanon since September 2004, and the programs have followed the country’s needs and progress. The main focus of today’s efforts in Lebanon is to help the hundreds of thousands of Syrian refugees, who have fled across the border to find protection from the conflict in their homeland. DRC is simultaneously maintaining the efforts toward the vulnerable groups of Palestinian refugees in Lebanon. More than 200.000 Syrian refugees have received assitance from the Danish Refugee Council since the beginning of the crisis.For further information about DRC, please refer to our website: www.drc.dk About the jobThe Bekaa Area Database Officer is line managed by the MEL Manager, and will design/develop, test, maintain, support and improve the database and database management systems in the Bekaa; ensure beneficiary, monitoring, and reporting data is managed and maintained; Obtain, compile and analyze data from on the program indicators, and disseminate in appropriate formats for improving the programmatic decision making and planning process; Enhance and build capacities of DRC staff in terms of database use and maintenance, data quality, and basic analysis through on-going support and trainings. Duties• Ensure data collected by field teams is cross-checked and uploaded into the DRC database;• Ensure reporting data is cross-checked and sector teams are supported to upload into inter-agency reporting and monitoring tools (such as ActivityInfo, RAIS, SpongeBase etc);• Provide technical guidance and troubleshooting support for data planning, collection, recording and reporting requirements for field staff;• Analyze and report regularly to the MEL Area Manager on the progress and quality of the data;• Working closely with the Database Coordinator (Beirut), take responsibility for adapting and testing the database at field office level and develop system procedures/manuals;• Develop and maintain the database sector in Bekaa, including overseeing technical aspects of data collection and development of backend database;• Capacity development/training of the Bekaa MEL staff and partners in data management. About youRequired• At least three years relevant professional experience working in emergency, development, community, or social work sectors;• A Bachelor degree in Computer Science or relevant field with significant professional experience;• Languages: Fluency in English and Arabic required;• Strong skills in database systems (PostgreSQL, SQL server, MySQL) as well in designing and using FileMaker applications;• Strong IT skills – particularly with Microsoft Office suite (strong Excel skills essential);• Excellent sense of humor, patience, and great attitude is absolutely essential to the position. Preferable• An advanced university degree (Masters/Postgraduate Diploma) in Computer Science or Management Information Systems;• Experience using Syria response inter-agency tools (such as ActivityInfo, RAIS, SpongeBase etc);• Good understanding of NGOs and their data management needs;• Basic understanding of data security and encryption tools;• Experience with ODK data collection/coding;• Training and capacity development experience. You must be available to start work from November 2015 and be willing and able to work in Bekaa.Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for National staff. For Staff outside the Bekaa are entitled to accommodation allowance. This position will be placed at level C1, equivalent to USD 1,561 per month.
