Regional Communication Manager for the Middle East – based in Amman
(National position)
Duty Station: Amman – Jordan (with potential visits to Amman, Zarqa, Jerash and Balqa governorates) and the region (Lebanon, KRI, Palestine, Syria etc.)

The position:
The Regional Communications Officer will work with diverse teams in the region to create, implement and maintain public relations and communications initiatives in the organization in order to increase the visibility and profile of PUI in the Middle East.
- Full time position – Starting with a 6 months contract initially -
- Based in Amman but with frequent travels throughout the region (min. 30% of the time)
- Reports to the Regional Office Coordinator and the Communications department at HQ
Responsibilities:
Strategy
Design a communication strategy linked to the overall regional strategy.
Foster synergies with PUI-missions in region to focus on a few concrete transversal issues based on facts and figures from PUI field activities.
Regularly assess the implemented communication strategy for possible adjustments.
Develop a communications calendar, linked to national and international highlights throughout the region
Branding
In line with the PUI institutional communication strategy and with the HQ communication department, support the development and updating of communication and brand guidelines, including an Arabic version, and work hand in hand with all country missions to ensure communication and brand guidelines are well adhered to.
Production of communication materials
Produce articles and other materials for PUI-media: websites, social media, publications, etc.
Support the development of success stories to be used for fundraising and assist in gathering relevant information for the organizations’ publications
Produce photo stories to highlight the living conditions of the beneficiaries and the impact of PUI’s projects on their lives
Design & production of statements and reports
Write blog notes for the different PUI-media
Screen/monitor and support the development of the different PUI Facebook pages for the region
Work closely with the different country missions to identify cross cutting topics for communication:
Support missions in the design of specific visibility products and promotional material and publications, including brochures, flyers, posters, electronic promotions, calendars, etc.
Timely production and coordination of Press Releases at critical moments
Engagement with media
Function as PUI-contact person for local, national and international media
Compose and maintain a database with contacts of local, national and international media
Develop network with local, national and international media and link them to the relevant country offices
Ensure coverage/pitch specific PUI organised activities/events to the media
Reporting:
Keep the Regional Coordinator and the Communications department and the PUI network updated on ongoing and planned communications activities through monthly reports clearly reflecting the work done and the plans for upcoming period Maintain log of mentions of PUI in local, national and regional media
Upon request, translate important information and screen/monitor overall trends on humanitarian/politics Arabic websites to complement the ROC vision on the region.
Other
If need be, support the organization of regional conferences and meetings
See the feasibility of developing of an image-database (pictures, video, etc.) to be fed by the different country offices on regular basis
Perform any other duties that contribute to the increase of the organisation’s profile in the region
Requirements:
Education:
University degree in Communications, Public Relations or Journalism or similar field
Experience:
At least 2 years previous experience in public relations and communication
Mandatory skills & abilities:
- Arabic native speaker with full fluency in Arabic and English language
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with ability to adapt style to suit different audiences
- Socio-politically aware with good understanding of regional context and root causes of displacement and protracted crises
- Fully conversant with ICT and Office applications with excellent experience with Graphic Design & Photo software
- Excellent understanding and knowledge of social media tools (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.)
- Excellent capacity to speak in front of media (TV, radio)
- Demonstrate strong diplomatic skills
- Excellent collaboration, team work and interpersonal skills
- Creativity, innovation and ability to take initiative
- High flexibility, adaptability, culturally sensitivity
- Demonstrate good events organizing capacities
- Creative and innovative approach to communication and branding
- Ability to work well in a multicultural environment across different geographical locations
- Valid national driving license (min. 1 year)
Desirable:
- Good knowledge and understanding of humanitarian principles, civil society and NGO work
- Good audio-visual skills
- Experience in photo-editing and video-montage
- Up-to-date on new communication trends and opportunities for the non-for-profit sector
- Understanding of community-based and rights-based approaches
