Pediatrician – Bekaa Valley

-Dimension of the job: MCC Majdal Anjar has a pediatric ward (starting with 4 beds) for short-term admissions (maximum length of stay is 48h of children <5 years). Moreover the MCC includes a maternity unit, with a separate unit for Low-Birthweight-Infants without complications. Target population are Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese population. General •Apply pediatric and neonatal knowledge and skills for diagnosis and prevention (helped by clinical examination, laboratory results and exams available). •If necessary prescribe relevant treatment according to agreed guidelines and protocols. •Ensure a medical follow-up of quality (treatment correctly applied) and if necessary (and possible) refer to other health facilities. •Collaborate with nurses, midwife and team supervisor in indicating the needs in medical equipment and drugs. Detailed Description of Medical Activities •Ensure two daily rounds in the pediatric ward (morning and afternoon/evening), and in the LBW-unit. •Physical examination of all newborns before discharge and documentation (first PNC visit). •Availability (“on call”) 24/7 for: Management of paediatric and newborn resuscitation and emergencies in paediatrics. •Ensure examination of all the patients using universal precautions. •Ensure protocols are in place and followed by medical staff. •Ensure the surveillance of neonates. •Ensure comprehensive documentation in the patients' medical file in a timely and accurate manner diagnosis, lab exams, treatments, plan and discharge orders. •Ensure that basic neonatal drugs are available according to clinical guidelines. Organization and team management •Check the good course of medical activities within the ward (prescription correctly applied, necessary follow-up done…) and correct documentation. •Indicate difficulties in case management, gaps in protocols etc. to medical supervisor. Training of hospital staff •Detect need for further training of any medical staff (e.g. medical procedures, resuscitation etc.), communicate this to supervisor, and participate in planning and execution of training •Implement formal training with help of MCC supervisor in Neonatal emergency care, neonatal resuscitation and prematurity, KMC unit.
