Community Outreach Officer

Background ACTED is a French humanitarian NGO, founded in 1993, which supports vulnerable populations, affected by humanitarian crises worldwide. ACTED provides continued support to vulnerable communities by ensuring the sustainability of post-crisis interventions and engaging long-term challenges facing our target populations, in order to break the poverty cycle, foster development and reduce vulnerability to disasters. Our interventions seek to cover the multiple aspects of humanitarian and development crises through a multidisciplinary approach which is both global and local, and adapted to each context. Our 4 000 staff is committed in to responding to emergencies worldwide, to supporting recovery and rehabilitation, towards sustainable development. Our teams in the field implement some 380 projects in 34 countries covering the following sectors emergency relief, food security, access to health, education and training, economic development, microfinance, advocacy, institutional support, and regional dialogue, cultural promotion. Assignment The Community Outreach Officer is in charge of supervising the day to day implementation of the community engagement and public health activities.  The Community Outreach Officer will work under the supervision of the WASH Program Manager to ensure that targets are reached in their area of intervention to improve access to community level WASH services. Functions   The Community Outreach Officer will be responsible for coordinating with the community in the designated area of intervention to ensure timely implementation of project as per program guidelines. The Community Outreach Officer will directly undertake the following tasks to ensure smooth operations and quality of interventions; Preliminary community consultations, with local residents and local authorities Formation of community water groups and coordination with ACTED hygiene promotion teams for training of committees Implement water quality activities, under the guidance of the WASH Program Manager Coordination with the local community and ACTED technical team to develop participatory solutions for community level WASH issues; Liaise with logistics department; Ensure that project documentation is properly compiled, maintain proper records and provide daily and weekly report to supervisor; Notifies Program Manager in case of any problem or obstacle in the field; Inform relevant ACTED focal points of any security threats or incidents in the field; Skills required -          Experience in outreach or community work -          Strong communication skills -          Experience working with local authorities -          Experience in logistics is preferred -          Experience in supervising construction works is an asset -          English or French language skills necessary
