Women’s Access to Justice- Phase 2: is a three years program implemented by Justice Without Frontiers in partnership with Oxfam GB in the area of Mount Lebanon. The program aims to contribute to equitable access to formal and informal justice for poor and vulnerable women.   Job Overview/Summary:  Develop and deliver four-day training to a group of 50 participants including junior lawyers and law students. The participants will be provided with knowledge on women’s rights in international law and women rights in Personal Status Law.   Qualifications: The trainer should have the following competencies and experience: •Hold a Masters degree in legal studies. •Post Graduate qualification in Gender Studies, Human Rights, or other relevant field • Substance skills and progressive proven experience in both Personal status law and international law. •Proven analytical skills in the area of women’s human rights and access to justice for women •Familiarity with the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) •Experience in working with government and non-government institutions on women’s human rights • Good training and communication skills • Good educational skills • Fluency in written and spoken Arabic language.     Training requirements: - Develop the content of the training and teaching aids (including agenda, working methods and procedures, handouts and evaluation forms) which will be discussed with the Project Team;   - The trainer must identify the different elements that comprise personal status law of the targeted Christian sects in Mount Lebanon. Elements of the international law must also be identified. - To examine ways in which each of these elements can reinforce/ challenge gender inequality - Provides an expansive definition of discrimination and comprehensive bill of rights for women -  Addresses not only individual violations but also the weaknesses in the system and institutions that permit such violations - To provide a brief background to CEDAW and the binding nature of the state’s obligation and the judicial application under CEDAW - To assess how law can be transformed into an agent of reform. The role of law can be analyzed based on the following three elements:(a) Protection of rights, (b) Regulation of behaviour/ conduct, (c) Law as an agent of social reform. - Stresses that the state is responsible for the practical realization of rights, and that the gap between law, policy and practice has to be closed.   Expected output of the training: -Junior lawyers and law students will improve knowledge in PSLand international law collaboratively and skills necessary for designing and delivering basic awareness sessions for women.   The trainer must take into consideration the following: • The status of international human rights law in the Lebanese legal system •The situation of woman’s rights in light of the Lebanese constitution • Challenges facing discriminatory law in the superior religious courts •The official relationship between the formal legal system and the informal mechanisms of justice • Areas of gender justice issues that have seen regression •Recognize the contexts in which discrimination against women occurs and the manner in which discrimination is structured •Establish that discrimination results in inequality, loss of benefits, rights and power for women. Key Deliverables: Final Report: After the delivery of the training, the trainer shall submit to the Project Manager a report including the followings: •Concise presentation of the training sessions content and of applied methods, including the most important, attractive ideas of participants on the discussed subjects; •Conclusions and recommendations •Designing the training programme evaluation forms and develop the training evaluations that will be filled in by participants; Other The position is offered for a four days training.
