Community Capacity Building Assistant – Fire Safety

These attitudes and believes shall guide our actions and relationships.  The employee will have to sign a Code of Conduct before starting his/her contract with NRC. 1.      Role and responsibilities The following is a brief description of the role. The Community Capacity Building Assistant (CCBA) for Fire Safety will work with the whole CCB team to build the capacity of refugees living in informal settlements to (a) reduce the risk of fires and (b) to respond to fires that do break-out.  He/she will be responsible for planning and implementing fire safety trainings and distribution of equipment in informal settlements across T5 and Akkar, as well as assisting the CCB team with other CCB duties including working with refugees to identify gaps and duplication in services, find community based solutions to problems, improve , assistance to vulnerable beneficiaries, and enhance  on-site coordination. It is expected that the CCBA spends most of his/her time in the informal settlements. The CCBA reports to the Community Capacity Building Officer (CCBO). Generic responsibilities Assist the team in establishing good relationships with refugee representatives and committees, and carrying out capacity building and coaching activities; Assist the team in the implementation of information and sensitisation activities; Focal point for all fire safety trainings and fire safety equipment distributions in the informal settlements Work closely with other NRC Core Competencies staff implementing activities in the informal settlements and elsewhere in T5 area; Provide updates with verified information on humanitarian gaps and duplications in the informal settlements, in general and for weekly reports; Support the team in defining the methods of community participation that ensure the greatest possible participation of vulnerable groups (Age, Gender and Diversity Mainstreaming approach); Ensure the principle of confidentiality is ensured in all the project activities; Any other relevant duties as requested by the Project Manager or Project Coordinator. Critical interfaces By interfaces, NRC means processes and projects that are interlinked with other departments/units or persons. Relevant interfaces for this position are: Refugees representatives: a good collaboration with the representatives is critical for reaching the project objectives of increased participation by the refugees. NRC Safety and Security Department Other NRC Core Competencies: Coordination with all the CCs on activities in T5 and Akkar. The employee is required to respect the principle of strict confidentiality and the NRC Code of Conduct. The tasks and responsibilities might change during the contract period due to operational needs. 2.      Competencies 1. Professional competencies Generic professional competencies: Ordinary National Diploma in Social Work or other relevant field Minimum 1 years of relevant work experience in working with humanitarian or community based projects in the field, including training or capacity building activities Previous experience in fire safety, fire-fighting/response, and/or other emergency preparedness and response work Experience of working in the geographical area Good English language level Context/ Specific skills, knowledge and experience: Good communication and interpersonal skills Strong organisational and team working skills Good cultural awareness and sensitivity Highly approachable, trustworthy and understanding of the principles of confidentiality Knowledge of the NGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector Good knowledge of protection issues and programming Good information analysis skills Good coordination and multitasking skills Flexibility, both regarding job tasks and geographical area of work 2.
