Short Term Consultant- English Editor

Project Description: Developing Rehabilitation Assistance to Schools and Teacher Improvement-II (D-RASATI-II) is a project that aims at enhancing student achievement in Lebanese public schools by training English teachers, developing extra-curricular activities, providing schools with ICT equipment and training, developing school leadership and building the capacity and tools necessary to support school improvement planning. D-RASATI-II is a United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project. It started in October 2013 and expected to end in March 2016. Position Description: Under the Developing Rehabilitation Assistance to Schools and Teacher Improvement (D-RASATI) 2. Lebanon’s National Action Plan for Educational Technology was developed through close coordination and collaboration between the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MEHE) and the project Lebanon’s national educational technology strategic plan lays out a five-year roadmap to guide the implementation and integration of information and communications technology (ICT) within all levels of the Lebanese general education system. The English Language Editor will be responsible for rendering the highest quality of editorial services to produce a cohesive, well structured, well-written, and publication-ready ICT National Action Plan document that will be shared with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The editor is expected to ensure the texts are appropriate, in quality and style, for the audience at the ministerial level. Objectives and Tasks The editor will work in coordination with the D-RASATI 2 management to edit the National Action Plan document that consists of 200 pages while taking into account grammar, style, content and format. The editor will make the following editions: 1. Executing various editing activities to the English language of the National Action Plan document, including but not limited to, screening, structuring, and proofreading; 2. Checking for repetition, spelling and grammar mistakes, and punctuation; 3. Editing the presentation style and format, i.e., spacing, indentation, capitalization, paragraphs; 4. In case of restructuring, ensuring the maintenance of depth and accuracy of materials; 5. Maintaining consistency and smooth flow across the various components of the document; 6. Ensuring consistency in formatting of references; 7. Paying special attention to the text in boxes, graphics and tables; 8.  Upholding confidentiality and completing the review perfectly and promptly. Outputs The key deliverables are as follows: 1. Perfectly edited and formatted National Action Plan document in compliance with D-RASATI 2 and MEHE’s editorial style and terminology. Qualifications and Experience An advanced academic degree in English Language or Translation At least fix years of relevant experience as a Writer/Editor. Previous professional editing experience Ability to work independently, under pressure to ensure work is achieved to a high standard and in a timely manner An eye for detail along with critical thinking Excellent interpersonal skills Familiarity with the Lebanese public education sector   Timing, duration and location The editor will work remotely from home or from the D-RASATI 2 office in Downtown. Editing will be conducted over a total of 14 days. The work will be carried out from first week of September to mid-September
