Adolescent Girls Officer

SCOPE OF WORK: The Adolescent Girls Officer, as a team member of the IRC’s Women’s Protection and Empowerment (WPE) team, will work closely with the WPE Manager and Adolescent Girls Consultant to design and implement an intervention aimed to respond to the needs of adolescent girls in Lebanon. The Adolescent Girls Officer will be responsible for Assessing needs of target girls and supporting design and set up of a pilot programme; Lead the start up and implementation of pilot intervention including selection of target girls, relationship building with key gate keepers and monitoring of activities. Monitor the implementation of activities for girls, including the selection of mentors for girls; in collaboration with the adolescent girl’s consultant; and the continued strengthening of the mentors’ capacity Lead relationship building with key gatekeepers to select girls who will be beneficiaries of the intervention. Who this position reports to: WPE Manager, Bekaa, Lebanon SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES The Adolescent Girls Officer is specifically responsible for the following tasks: Support baseline assessments/scoping exercises to identify specific vulnerabilities of targeted adolescent girls and feed into the design of a pilot initiative to respond to these. Assist in the development of documents and reference materials for mentors, targeted girls and communities with support from the WPE team and Adolescent Girls Consultant In collaboration with the WPE Manager and the Adolescent Girls Consultant, contribute to the design, planning, implementation and evaluation of interventions for the mentors and targeted girls Work closely with WPE team to ensure GBV responses are reflective of the needs of girls’ in particular early marriage and sexual violence. Strengthen the capacity of mentors through ongoing training, and conduct regular meetings with mentors to monitor the progress of activities and address any challenges. In collaboration the consultant, and based on the established criteria, identify the beneficiaries for the programme Lead in the planning and implementation of activities and strategies aimed at community leaders and parents (or guardians/gatekeepers) of the girls in the programme. Lead in the planning and implementation of training activities and interventions for participating girls Monitor and facilitate trainings for the adolescent girls programme and design appropriate approaches Facilitate regular meetings with parents (or guardians/gatekeepers) in the communities where the IRC works Through observation and regular evaluations, oversee and ensure the quality of activities implemented by the mentors; and share information with the WPE Manager in weekly meetings Supervise the monitoring, evaluation and preparation of reports on activities implemented.  Prepare purchase requests and monthly cash projections based on field requirements Prepare, monitor, and inform all activity-related logistical needs in accordance with IRC policies Other Ensure activities are done in accordance with IRC policy and in a timely manner to ensure the successful implementation of programmes; Submit professional monthly and other reports in a timely manner Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programmes. Professional Standards All IRC staff are required to adhere to THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct and the IRC country employment policies. REQUIREMENTS: Degree/ diploma in Social Work, Women’s Studies, or other related field; Clear understanding of gender inequality, and issues surrounding violence against women and girls; Ability to lead, train, supervise, facilitate and motivate other staff in their respective tasks in a professional, respectful and supportive manner; Positive and professional attitude, able to organize, maintain composure and prioritize work under pressure, work overtime when necessary and be able to coordinate multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail; Ability to work as a member of a team essential; Computer literacy, including Microsoft Word and Excel. Knowledge of GBV IMS an asset; Fluency in Arabic required. Ability to communicate in English and write clear and concise reports in English strongly preferred. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Staff will be based in Zahle and provide services to selected locations across Bekaa.  Occasional travel to Beirut may occur.
