Nutrition Mentor

I. Summary  The Nutrition Mentor will assist the program aiming at building the capacity of healthcare providers in Primary Healthcare Centers (PHCs) in Lebanon that belong to the network of the Ministry of Public Health on the screening, referral mechanisms and management of acute malnutrition among children under 5.  The Nutrition Coach will act as a mentor and focal point for technical support to selected Primary Health Care centers and will be involved in the delivery of trainings and regular follow-up on the implementation of the nutrition program within the assigned primary healthcare centers. He/she will ensure that anthropometric measurements are taken adequately; referrals for children identified with acute malnutrition are done according to the guidelines and management/treatment of acute malnutrition among children admitted for treatment is done according to the outpatient treatment protocol. The Nutrition Mentor will also be responsible for addressing arising challenges related to the implementation of the program and consistent and comprehensive reporting.       II. Responsibilities and Essential Functions  Build the capacity of designated health care staff on anthropometric measurements (MUAC, weight, height, and edema), referrals and management of acute malnutrition for children under 5, through the delivery of trainings. Ensure assigned PHCs have received all necessary materials, supplies and tools to proceed with implementation of the program. Provide technical support where needed to designated healthcare staff on screening and management of potential cases suffering from acute malnutrition. Provide on the job support to the assigned PHCs to ensure successful application of screening/growth monitoring of children 0-59 months of age and referrals where needed. Provide on the job support to healthcare staff at the PHCs in measuring and recording anthropometric data for all children 0-59 months of age. Ensure the correct implementation of the referral process (PHC to PHC, PHC to Hospital, Hospital to PHC) Provide support to PHCs with regards to reporting on the stock and need for supplies. Provide the needed support and guidance to ensure proper follow-up of children admitted for management of acute malnutrition and prevent a high incidence of defaulters. Monitor the daily reporting from the PHCs. Submit detailed daily reports on the performance of the PHC. Link with PHC director, PHC administrative staff, nurses, pediatricians to ensure an optimal implementation of the program. Liaise and report to the Health & Nutrition Area Coordinator and Training Coordinator. Address program challenges as needed – after discussing the issues with the supervisor. Attend IOCC-related staff meetings when required. Perform other duties as necessary.    III.  Qualifications  A.     Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSA):  Fluency in reading/writing/speaking Arabic and English is essential. Good public speaking and training skills. Demonstrated experience in capacity building Strong social, interpersonal and intercultural skills. Problem-solving and leadership skills. Organized Self-motivated, flexible and adaptable to the needs of the team and organization. Able to meet deadlines and work under challenging conditions. Good reporting skills. Computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint etc.  Respects principles and values of IOCC.       IV.      Working Conditions   Stationed in the field; daily visits to primary health care centers. Visits to Beirut office for meetings, trainings, related paper work. Candidate should have a car Use personal car and will be reimbursed based on the submission of an approved mileage sheet at the rate of $0.32/km Communication cost will also be covered Available to start as soon as possible
