Social Media Officer, Middle-East And North Africa

Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) / Doctors Without Borders/ أطباء بل حدود , is an international, independent, medical humanitarian organisation that delivers emergency aid to people in over 60 countries who are affected by armedconflict, epidemics, natural disasters and exclusion from healthcare. MSF offers assistance to people based on need, irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. Our actions are guided by medical ethics and theprinciples of neutrality and impartiality. To maintain its independence from external interference, MSF relies on donations from private individuals for the vast majority of its income. Overview As a medical organisation, MSF would like to improve its ability to take part in conversations related to humanitarian issues, access to health care and medical needs among communities in the Arab world, with a focus on those populations we support. The Social Media Officer will help build MSF’s interaction with on-line communities in order to raise awareness, acceptance and visibility on humanitarian work and its challenges, to capture and understand concerns and needs and to generate and animate on-line communities in support of MSF’s humanitarian objectives and medical work. Job profile:1. Mapping key on-line communities and audiences- Mapping of on-line civil society communities in the Arab world interested in and engaged in humanitarian and medical work;- Mapping of on-line presence of recipients of humanitarian assistance in the Arab region;- Mapping of on-line groups and communities in the Arab world whom we would like to reach with our messages and concerns and ensuring this is kept regularly reviewed and updated;- Mapping of on-line media outlets and opinion leaders in Egypt, Lebanon and Syria 2. Social Media Strategy- Develop a social media strategy based on identification of audiences and communities, research, platform determination and benchmarking in support of MSF’s communication strategy and humanitarian work- In collaboration with other MSF digital officers in the region and in the international office, contribute to the development, set-up and optimisation of a strategic network of on-line MSF platforms in order to increase MSF’s visibility and digital presence across the MENA region;- Develop digital media strategies for field projects when needed, in collaboration with the MENA communications team and operations- Map and analyse the reach of existing individual social media accounts of MSF staff in the region and develop strategy with MSF staff to expand their outreach and dissemination capacity 3. Social Media Community Engagement Activities- Generate, edit, publish and share daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action in support of MSF’s humanitarian work;- Produce new, innovative and engaging content in Arabic and suggest and manage common digital projects in Arabic and assure their production and impact;- Pilot the creation of additional individual social media accounts (especially Twitter) of key operational positions in the region;- Continuously improve by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information;- In collaboration with other MSF social media staff in the region, contribute to on-line monitoring in order to respond to communities’ engagement, moderate on-line conversations, respond to requests from communities and populations and identify risks;- In collaboration with the MENA Communications Manager and MENA Human Resources Specialist, create specific on-line information and marketing efforts in support of MSF’s HR strategies in the region;- Coach MSF staff on responsible and engaging social media practice in support of MSF’s humanitarian objectives 4. Other- The position contributes to online threats monitoring in relation to MSF staff and projects in the region and will provide support to on-line crisis management.

- BS in Communications, Marketing, Business, New Media or Public Relations
- Previous working experience of at least 2 years in digital media communications, social media platform/community engagement and management or digital marketing and public relations;
- Proven skills and excellence in Arabic content production for digital platforms
- Excellent writing, editing (photo/audiovisual/text), presentation and communication skills in Arabic
- Proven skills and excellence in technical oversight, management and content publishing for digital media
- Adequate knowledge of web design, web development, Adobe and other relevant software
- Demonstrable social networking experience and social analytics tools knowledge
- Sense of humor, creativity and curiosity
- Experience with MSF, civil society organisation or NGO in the Arab world or other international NGOs;
- Interest in the MENA region and in humanitarian related matters;
- Fluency in Arabic, French and English (both spoken and written);
- Understanding of the importance of community acceptance and perception;
- Ability to work independently and report relevant information clearly and concisely;
- Excellent personal organisational ability, outgoing personality, good representation;
- Flexibility to travel.
