Accounting Assistant

Position Announcement Lebanon Reforestation Initiative Accounting Assistant The Lebanon Reforestation Initiative, a project of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) implemented by the United States Forest Service (USFS), seeks a short-term (three-month) Accounting Assistant for its Beirut office.  The Accounting Assistant assists in effective and efficient project financial management, accounting, and budgeting. S/he applies accounting principles and procedures, under the supervision of the Accountant.  S/he also assists in providing accurate and timely financial information to LRI managers and project management, and ensuring appropriate accounting control procedures. Essential job tasks and responsibilities include: Input daily financial data into the local accounting software. Maintain journal entries of all accounting transactions. Prepare check payment vouchers. Distribute checks. Prepare, process and follow up on interbank transfers Prepare cash receipt and cash disbursement vouchers and payments Prepare petty cash advance reconciliations. Disburse petty cash payments. Keep records of petty cash replenishments. Review and file sign-up sheets of outplanting workers. Review local accounting practices with the financial consultant. File accounts paperwork and properly archive them Assist in the V.A.T tax refund Update supplier list Contact suppliers as appropriate. Assist in the end of month closure and reconciliation Participate in weekly finance calls with the USFS IP Office. On the request of the Project Director, assume all needed finance and accounting responsibilities of the Accountant’s absences. The ideal candidate should possess the following competencies, skills and experience: Strong academic background (Bachelor Degree In Business Administration – Accounting or Finance) and 0-2 years’ experience in the fields of accounting, finance, and budgeting; Demonstrated track record of success in project accounting and finance, ideally in a non-profit organization context; Strong organizational and inter-personal skills; Excellent reporting and presentation skills; Fully conversant with Microsoft Office Fluency in both written and spoken English and Arabic.   Interested candidates are invited to send a curriculum vitae and letter of interest to info@lri-lb.org by April 5, 2015.
