Summary and Background:
The Epidemiologist will provide technical guidance and support to the Health Program, especially the Monitroing and Evaluation Unit especially in the areas of epidemiological analysis and capacity building.
Place in the Organization
The incumbent of this post is responsible to the Health Coordinator. The Epidemiologist will collaborate closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation team to strengthen program monitoring and impact assessment.
Functions and responsibilities
Support to Quality and Monitoring and Evaluation Systems
Support Monitoring and Evaluation Manager in clinical information management systems and data collection mechanisms
Analyze and interpret Health Information System data; coordinate with technical focal points on the use and interpretation of data;
Develop clinical and community level data collection tools
Identify new indicators and develop methods for data collection
Design and lead the implementation of public health and multi-sectoral assessments, including baseline assessments
Design and lead execution of studies and surveys to monitor and evaluate program impact
Support the Monitoring and Evaluation Manager in establishing feedback mechanisms of program results for decision making Adapt quality assurance tools supported by International Medical Corps and perform quality assurance checks to ensure accountability in programming
Epidemiologic Investigation
Design tools for outbreak investigation and establish response pathway
Perform analyses by using statistical techniques commonly employed in epidemiologic evaluations to interpret and analyze observed health phenomena. Use health information system and other systems for analysis of health problems.
Generate descriptive analyses of surveillance data for a variety of audiences.
Public Health Surveillance
Identify surveillance data needs and methods
Design community health surveillance systems including guidelines and reporting forms
Compile information from different surveillance systems to collect disease or health outcome data; Report key findings from the surveillance activities
Capacity Building
Train on program monitoring tools
Provide training on basic epidemiology principles and methods
Provide on the job mentoring and support to all staff involved in data collection, reporting and surveillance activities
