Hospice Clinical Psychologist

Responsibility   As a member of the Executive Team, works under the direction and the supervision of the Medical Director. The Hospice Psychologist is responsible for identifying patient/family needs and for providing supportive care in accordance with the plan of care set with the Medical Director and executive team.     Qualifications   - Masters’ Degree in Psychology - At least 5 years of a valid work experience as a clinical psychologist. A community-based approach and experience in end-of-life care is a plus. - Excellent communication skills, empathy, and compassion. Open minded, non-judgmental, respectful of others and their beliefs. - Flexible, proactive, problem-solver, trustworthy, and willing to accommodate for difficult and unexpected situations. - Sensitive to different cultures, values, and ethnicities. - Recognizes and upholds human rights and the four basic moral principles of medical practice (namely autonomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice). - Fully understands home hospice and end-of-life care, context, challenges, and the diverse settings it exists in. - Respects rituals and customs associated with the transition from life to death, including mourning rituals. - Team player - Fluent in Arabic and English and/or French. - Knowledge of basic computer software such as Word and Excel.     Functions   Under the supervision of the Medical Director, the Hospice Psychologist shall carry out the following:   Organizational Tasks - Ensure proper documentation of assessment, planning, coordination, and delivery of patient/family psychological care. - Provide for the regular multidisciplinary executive team meetings the development and revision of the patient/family psychological plan of care, including exchange of information, problems or unique issues and professional support provided. - Document patient/family visits details in the patient’s chart. - Participate in efforts to increase community awareness on the psychological aspects in end-of-life issues.   Executive Tasks - Collaborates with SANAD’s executive team to ensure continuous update on families’ coping mechanism and dynamics. - Ensures psychological assessment, intervention, and evaluation of results. - Assesses patients’ needs, abilities, or behavior using a variety of methods, including psychometric tests, interviews and direct observation of behavior. - Devises and monitors appropriate treatment programs, including therapy, counseling, in collaboration with SANAD’s executive team. - Develops and evaluates psychological service provision for patients. - Conducts regular meetings with the executive team for continuous update on challenges met and achievements accomplished. - Works with patients and families of different ages, religions, socioeconomic statuses, and backgrounds on a variety of mental health problems. - Writes regular progress reports on psychological interventions. - Submits a monthly report on patient cases to attach to patients’ report. - Is involved in new initiatives that have psychological support elements like support groups, grief groups, and creating support material to be shared with families. - Provides consultation to executive team members. - Provides counseling and support to SANAD’s executive team members. - Upholds the mission and goals of SANAD.
