Responsibilities and tasks:
Takes patients history of trauma, particularly recording any departure from the normal condition, as well as paying regard to the patient’s own experiences and of relatives’ feelings about the patient’s predicament.
Using approved and reliable methods and measures, to determine a patient’s locomotor and functional abilities, body image and experience of pain; to assess the patient’s needs; and also, if necessary, to obtain a second medical opinion.
Determine the ultimate objective of treatment and what steps to take, as well as to prepare a schedule for physiotherapeutic treatment and other requirements, including the supplying and fitting of appliances.
Administers a suitable physical therapy program depending on the case of the patient
Maintain continuous documentation of physiotherapeutic interventions
Shows extensive clinical experience in post-operative rehabilitation and respiratory care
Develops gradual progressive treatment protocols in accordance with the instructions of the physician and mobile physiotherapist
Guides patients through prescribed exercise programs, including passive, assistive, and resistive exercise routines which are designed to develop or enhance strength, muscle tone, and range of motion.
Assists patients in gait training (i.e., the use of walkers, crutches, canes, braces, etc.) in order to improve ambulatory skills
Develops auto-training programs designed to meet individualized patient needs when required
Treat groups of patients sharing similar problems by leading appropriate group training and treatment.
Observes condition of patients during treatment and may modify the prescribed treatment if it seems to be injurious to the health of the patient;
Communicates effectively with patients to maximize rehabilitation potential and ensure understanding of condition
Educate patients and close relatives how functional abilities can be improved
Records patient response to treatment and overall progress in patient charts
Prepares patient transfer sheets detailing the overall situation of the patient and the treatment administered
Provides statistics to the assigned mobile physiotherapist when required
Participates in regular meetings with the physiotherapists and other health staff to discuss the overall patient evolution
Keeps up to date with new techniques and technologies available for treating patients
Maintains treatment areas by changing linen, cleaning and refilling equipment
Performs related work as required
Minimum required knowledge & experience:
Good knowledge of written and spoken English
Good computer skills
