Awards Director

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY: Strategic planning and leadership To define the strategic direction of the awards management unit and undertake effective planning that supports the members of the unit to establish and maintain an efficient and  effective awards management system To support in the development of a fundraising strategy that enables proactive engagement across Save the Children globally and with donors to secure funding opportunities in a timely manner Systems strengthening and compliance To ensure that the Award Management System (AMS) is effectively maintained, up to date and accurately records the audit trail (data and process) for all awards and sub-awards by ensuring that all proposals, contracts and amendments are appropriately authorized, that new grants documentation is properly registered and updated and that any issues with the awards management system are addressed promptly and effectively. To develop and collate key performance indicators that can be used to identify operational issues that could impact negatively on the delivery of programmes To appropriately document advancements made in grants management to ensure the continued maintenance of a uniform and standardised structure and system To ensure that key staff (including partners) have a clear understanding of donor compliance requirements throughout the project management cycle To ensure that partnership agreements, amendments and funds transfer requests are properly reviewed and documented before getting signed by the Country Director Programme implementation and resource management To ensure the production of high quality concept notes and proposals that are reflective of Save the Children and donor strategic objectives, whilst ensuring the cost of doing business is accurately reflected in proposal budgets To provide support related to grant management (including revisions, reclassing and amendment requests), contracting and donor compliance to internal departments and field teams in the delivery of programmes To provide support to operations director and field teams in award review meetings and ESMT high risk awards review To ensure the production of high quality and timely reports that accurately reflect the impact achieved and lessons learnt during the implementation of a grant Support to programme development To provide detailed analysis of current/ pipeline grants to senior management and provide donor funding cycle information to guide proactive business development To engage with Save the Children globally and provide information to support in the building of professional relations with donors to identify strategic fundraising opportunities Coordination and representation To work in collaboration with internal departments to ensure coordination between teams and integration of cross departmental process To engage globally on the development of Save the Children systems and processes and the sharing of best practice To work in collaboration with the finance department to ensure accurate master and project specific budgeting, financial reporting, phasing and forecasting. To work in collaboration with the finance department and provide technical advice regarding strategic donor costs allocations with a view to minimise compliance issues where possible (timesheets, co-financing etc.) To build and maintain relationships with relevant networks and award management staff of similar organisations in the country Line Management and capacity building To build the awards management unit in a cohesive team that coordinates closely with other departments and has a clear understanding of how their roles contribute to the wider strategic objectives of Save the Children To provide support to the award management team to strengthen their knowledge and capacity as relevant to their role by providing, induction, training and coaching consistent with their capacity, roles and responsibilities Providing budget holders and line managers with appropriate training in donor guidelines, compliance issues, field budgeting systems and Save the Children grant management procedures and best practice General Complying with and promoting all Save the Children Global policies such as Child Safeguarding, Whistle blowing, Fraud, and Health and Safety

Essential
• Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, with the ability to organise a demanding workload comprised of diverse and challenging tasks and responsibilities.
• Proven track record of active contribution to a senior management team, and providing strategic support across multiple sectors and/or regions.
• Extensive experience with NGOs with increasing responsibilities including a proven experience of establishing and running the award management function in the field.
• Knowledge of the requirements of major institutional donors including budgeting, eligibility issues, compliance management, and reporting.
• Experience of engaging with donors at country strategy levels.
• Experience of and well developed skills in staff management and supervision. Proven strong coaching and capacity building skills.
• Very strong capacity for attention to detail, problem solving, and analysis of trends.
• Computer literate (i.e. Word, advanced Excel, Outlook, Internet Explorer, financial
systems).
• Cultural awareness and ability to build relationships quickly with a wide variety of people
• Patient, adaptable, flexible, able to improvise and remain responsive and communicate clearly and effectively under pressure
• Strong communication (written and spoken), and interpersonal skills in English, with experience in managing multicultural teams

Desirable
• Experience with Save the Children award management Policies, procedures and systems and Save the Children’s award management system (AMS)
• Understanding of how to produce financial reports from Save the Children’s overseas accounting software (Agresso)
• Experience of Project Management, Monitoring and Evaluation Management or Funding Coordination
