Most of the staff members are refugees themselves, working directly to benefit their communities – as teachers, doctors, nurses or social workers.   INTERNSHIP/VOLUNTEER   Location Lebanon Field Office Type of Appointment INTERNSHIP/VOLUNTEER Department/Division Deadline for Application Various 19 November 2015     UNRWA Lebanon Field Office (LFO) regularly offers up the chances for unpaid Internship/Volunteer, for national and international students, to acquire work experience within their field of studies and to:   Put into practice their field of study Gain work experience in an international environment Contribute to one of the largest and longest running humanitarian projects of our era   The UNRWA, Lebanon Field Office, is looking for Internship/Volunteer in various disciplines.  Students from these disciplines are welcome to apply, and depending on qualifications, shall be selected for Internship/Volunteer that relate either to the organization's strategic activities or to administrative or technical functions. Internship/Volunteer will allow the successful candidates to have the opportunity to work in a multi-cultural international organization:   Administration Services Department Donor Relations Unit Education Department (Employment, Scholarship, Training, Special Needs, TVET, Interactive Learning, …) Finance Department Health Department (Pharmacist, Labs, Nursing, Research, …) Human Resources Department Information Technology Infrastructure & Camp Improvement Programme (Architect, Site Engineer, Sanitation Engineer, …) Legal Office (Protection & Law) Operations Support Office Procurement & Logistics Department Programme Support Office Public Information Office Relief And Social Services Department Security & Safety Unit   Please indicate your field(s) of interest in the covering letter page   TYPICAL TASKS   Typical tasks performed by local/international interns as well conducting research; writing documents; cataloguing information; assisting in the organization of conferences, forums or other collaborative events; other supportive tasks for the relevant department relating to the studies and expertise of the student. Typical tasks performed by volunteers: provide administrative support;   MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: for a person to be taken into consideration as an Internship/Volunteer:   For international and local Internship: The intern is an individual who is studying for a university degree such as Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. (or the equivalent) or have graduated from such studies within three years prior to the application date of the Internship/Volunteer. For national Volunteer: the successful completion of a secondary school and the minimum age of 18 is mandatory.     CONDITIONS OF SERVICE   Remuneration: Internship/Volunteer are considered “Gratis” Personnel, which are not remunerated, reimbursed for their personal expenses related to their INTERNSHIP/VOLUNTEER or covered by any insurance schemes of UNRWA.   Duration: The duration of an Internship/Volunteer can vary from a minimum of 2 months to a maximum of 11 months, mainly depending on the requirements of the placement and secondarily on the availability of the student.   Internship/Volunteer are considered gratis personnel. They are not staff members. Internship/Volunteer may not be sought or accepted as substitutes for staff to be recruited against authorized posts. Internship/Volunteer may not represent UNRWA in any official capacity.   Third-party claims: UNRWA is not responsible for any claims by any parties where the loss of or damage to their property, death or personal injury was caused by the actions or omission of action by them during their Internship/Volunteer period.   Expenses: Internship/Volunteer are not financially remunerated by UNRWA. All costs connected with an intern's participation in the Programme must be borne by: a)     the nominating institution, related institution or government, which may provide the required financial assistance to its students; b)    the student, who will have to obtain financing for subsistence and make his/her own arrangements for travel (including to and from the office), visas, accommodation, etc.   Insurance: UNRWA accepts no responsibility for the medical and life insurance of the intern or costs arising from accidents and illness incurred during an Internship/Volunteer. As Internship/Volunteer are not covered under any insurance, including MAIP, they should not travel to hazardous locations in the course of their Internship/Volunteer with UNRWA. Applicants for Internship/Volunteer must show proof of valid medical and life/accident insurance for the duty station for which they will work. It must include adequate coverage in the event of an injury or illness during the Internship/Volunteer which: a)             requires transportation to the Home Country or Country of Residence for further treatment; or b)    results in death and requires preparation and return of the remains to the Home Country, or Country of Residence.   Visa: Interns/volunteers will be solely responsible to secure visas and travel permits related to the placement.   Subsequent Employment: The purpose of the INTERNSHIP/VOLUNTEER Programme is not to lead to further employment with UNRWA but to complement an intern’s studies. Therefore, there should be no expectation of employment at the end of an Internship/Volunteer.
