Psychologist

1. Background: In response to the Syrian crisis, War Child works through local partners to provide psychosocial support to children and young people affected by the conflict. War Child is seeking an experienced psychologist to be a full-time member of the program team, to support local partners, 2. Objective of the position: To oversee the development and implementation of component of War Child’s program to provide counselling and support for the wellbeing of local implementing partners, and support in monitoring of psychosocial component of War Child’s program for children affected by Syria’s conflict. 3. Key tasks and responsibilities: The psychologist will work under the supervision of the War Child Emergency Program Manager, to whom he/she will report, and will liaise with and receive support from the Quality Department (QD) at War Child.   Manage the development and implementation of program component to support the wellbeing of partner staff. Provide individual and group counselling to War Child’s partner staff. Provide remote follow up and support to individual partner staff. Develop and implement (when possible during trainings) self-care tools to be used by local partners. Providing training for partner staff in self-care packages and other tools as necessary. Assist QD in developing War Child’s psychosocial support tools or training depending on field needs. Support the monitoring and assessment of War Child’s psychosocial program for children, implemented by local partners. Report on all above activities (the individual or group counseling, methods and techniques used…)   4. Time-frame The psychologist is a full-time position (5 days per week). Part-time is negotiable, depending on experience. The position will start as soon as possible and will last for 3 months; with possibility for extension.   5. Duty station and travel arrangements The psychologist will be based out of the office in Beirut.   6. Project inputs War Child Holland will provide the psychologist with a monthly salary commensurate with experience, as well as transportation and communication costs, and a laptop computer.   7. Required skills and competencies Fluency in Arabic required; proficiency in English   Relevant degree in clinical psychology. A diploma in psychotherapy is a plus  Two to three years of experience in relevant field (working with NGO or as a counselor or psychotherapist) Background/contextual knowledge regarding the conflict and humanitarian situation in Syria. Team oriented, with ability to work efficiently independently. Flexible and responsive to program challenges, with willingness to take on additional tasks as needed. Proficient in Ms Office - word processing, spread sheets, etc.
