Engineer

Main Responsibilities Under the direct supervision of the Senior Engineer, and in coordination with the Field Coordinators, the Engineer will provide necessary civil engineering support pertaining to the rehabilitation of the hospitals and laboratories throughout Lebanon i.e. the component listed under bullet no. 2 above. The specific duties include:   Ensure smooth running of the rehabilitation works and completion of the structures within budget and on time; Assist in managing the subcontractors, budgets and project resources pertaining to the rehabilitation Undertaking technical and feasibility assessments including site investigations Define a range of computer packages for developing detailed designs; Liaising with the benefiting institutions i.e. hospitals and laboratories, and a variety of professionals including architects and subcontractors Compiling job specifications and bill of quantities; preparing tendering documents in accordance with the donor requirements and the IRD’s policies and procedures Undertake activities pertaining to bid opening and contracting; Resolve design and development problems; Schedule material and equipment purchases and deliveries; Ensure the rehabilitation works comply with the legal requirements in Lebanon; Assess the sustainability and environmental impact of projects; Other duties as assigned by Senior Engineer and/or Program Manager Qualifications University degree in civil engineering. Excellent computer skills; sound mathematical and technical skills including physics. Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic language skills. Engineering experience related to civil works; Experience with non-governmental or international organizations, as well as knowledge of UNHCR, USAID, and other development agencies programs and regulations is an asset. Excellent planning, judgment and management skills. Excellent interpersonal skills, including patience, willingness to listen to others and respect the opinions and ideas of colleagues. The ability to work independently and as a member of a team. Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, stressful environment.  Must be flexible, willing to work long hours and travel often.
