Emergency Public Health Field Assistant -Community Work (Sarafand)

General: An intergovernmental organization established in 1951, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) has over 150 member states and more than 470 field locations worldwide. IOM works, in close coordination with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners, to help ensure the orderly and humane management of migration, to promote international cooperation on migration issues, to assist in the search for practical solutions to migration problems and to provide humanitarian assistance to populations in need, including refugees and internally displaced people. As an integral part of its multi-sectorial response to the Syrian crisis, IOM works through existing health care health facilities to improve health care access for Syrian refugees, Lebanese returnees and host community members, and provides support to national health care systems. Under the supervision Health Programme Officer at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Beirut, and in coordination with the Sarafand sub-office team leader, the incumbent will be responsible and accountable for implementing emergency health assistance -related projects to meet specific obligations within IOM’s multi-sectorial Migration Crisis Operational Framework. In particular, he/she will: Participate in the identification of potential project beneficiaries, including Syrian refugees, Lebanese returnees and vulnerable host community members in South Lebanon (South and Nabatieh governorates) Reach out to Syrian refugees, Lebanese returnees and vulnerable host community members, provide them with information and engage them in health education/awareness raising Participate in assessments/surveys of the beneficiaries’ health needs In collaboration with the Emergency Health Unit at IOM Beirut, participate in the creation and dissemination of IEC (Information, Education, Communication) materials Disseminate information on location of health services, transport means and referral system to beneficiaries Organize and implement health awareness and education activities in health facilities and communities on topics such as hygiene, maternal and child health, nutrition and other topics according to the beneficiaries’ needs Monitor health projects’ process, specifically with the aim of increasing effectiveness and recommending appropriate actions in coordination with the Monitoring Emergency Public Health Field Assistant and with other IOM programme sectors Maintain regular and direct contact with beneficiaries, collect complaints and suggestions Report any difficulties and challenges to the Sub-Office Team Leader and IOM Beirut emergency health unit Contribute to developing new health project ideas in coordination with other emergency response program units (Shelter, NFIs Operations/Logistics, Psychosocial Support etc.) when needed Draft regular reports  of field activities using agreed upon templates  and share relevant information needed for  project proposal development, donor reports and other documents Represent IOM in Health Working Group meetings and other meetings in the South, as required Perform such other duties as may be assigned

Education and Experience
a) Completed University degree in Public Health, Nursing, or related health field d) minimum two years of relevant work experience, e) experience in the public health sector in Lebanon; knowledge of project development, implementation and monitoring is an advantage f) demonstrated understanding of the humanitarian system through work experience and/or studies g) good knowledge of the South and Nabatieh governorates, willing to undertake daily travel locally.
