Site Improvements Foreman

Role and Responsibilities Working as an important member of a diverse team who are committed to serve the world’s most vulnerable with practical and compassionate care, the site planning foreman works with the Site Improvements Engineer in tented settlement communities to aid planning and organisation of the sites with regard to drainage, rubbish collection and other areas of basic infrastructure. Where necessary, the site planning engineer will also support other project activities. Project Overview Conflict in Syria has erupted into a full-scale civil war endangering lives in almost every community in the country. Desperate families, caught in the crossfire, are leaving everything behind and fleeing into neighbouring countries. Lebanon, one of these countries, has received a large influx of refugees from Syria.   To assist the arriving Syrian refugees, Medair’s team in Lebanon is implementing an emergency shelter project including mapping and site improvement activities in the Bekaa Valley.   Through the shelter activities, refugee families will be provided with essential items and assisted with improving tented shelters and poor housing and settlement conditions. Key Activity Areas Participating in beneficiary selection Ensure community acceptance by professional approach to construction work Ensure community comprehension of Medair activities Distribution of materials and tools to community Site Planning - Construction Assisting Engineer in scheduling work activities Assisting design Facilitating site planning activities Supervise daily workers from the community Mark out work to be done on site and monitor progress Ensure correct payment to daily workers Taking deliveries of materials and equipment Assist in translation as needed Communicate implementation problems or issues to project manager. Participate in the generation of the final reporting of the project via post implementation analysis.  Quality and Financial Management Work within Medair’s recognised procedures in the area of finance and quality management Logistics Qualifications Studies in engineering, construction management, or similar subject Languages Strong working knowledge of Arabic and English (spoken and written) Experience / Competencies Several years’ experience in construction Good working knowledge of geography and culture of the Bekaa Valley region NGO or community engagement experience beneficial Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages Passionate about serving the poor, self-motivated and a desire to further knowledge Aptitude for community mobilization and engagement Team-player with good interpersonal skills Willing to support others and share workloads Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels Creative, open-minded, flexible and a self-leaner Ability to adapt communication strategies for different situations Able to take initiative in data collection and planning
