Communication Officer – Beirut

Place within the organization:   Hierarchically accountable to the Head of Mission (HoM) . Functionally links with the Communications advisor / Communication Department in Geneva. Links with MSF coms counterparts in the Middle East Region.   Scope of responsibility: Responsible for MSF operational communication at mission level. Build MSF visibility, acceptance and leverage inside the country. Contributes to identifying communication needs and defining a communication strategy supporting operational objectives. Under management of HoM, implements the communication strategy at mission level.   Main responsibilities include: Needs Assessment and Communication Strategy: -         Evaluate the mission communication needs and define a strategy based on her/his knowledge of the country. -         Work closely with the Head of mission on defining a local public advocacy strategy to support leverage on authorities and key players. -         Establish a budget for the implementation of the strategy. Media Management: -         Maps key local media and foreign correspondents contacts and maintains a regular contact with them under direction of HoM. -         Handle local media requests and contact local media proactively to pitch stories or ask for corrections/ clarifications. -         Facilitates local and international media visit to MSF projects in Lebanon Media Alert: -         Browsing local and international media and flags significant articles, news stories or reports of importance for MSF in Lebanon -        Produce strategic local and international media landscapes (numbers, political affiliation, ownership, freedom of speech, use of social media). -        Content Production: -       Advise on communication tools to be used. -       Contributes to the production of local communications content (leaflets, brochures, posters, radio spots, articles, photos, videos...) in the following area:  sensitization, awareness/ visibility, acceptance, advocacy. -       Content Diffusion: -       Promote actively MSF contents diffusion in the country. -       Under the supervision of the Head of Mission, the Communication officer identifies opportunities among MSF coms network production.

• Education :
- Mandatory: degree in Journalism, Communication, Humanitarian affairs, Political Sciences or related university degree.
• Experiences:
- Previous working experience in producing communications content production (articles, press release, etc),
• Language Required:
- English and Arabic mandatory, French is an asset.
• Other qualification required:
• Knowledge: social media, networking and media relations skills.
• Mandatory: computer literacy (word, excel and internet).
• Personal quality: flexibility and adaptability.
