Education Field Assistant

Job Purpose Summary  The EFA will work with the education team to support out of school children in Arsal ITS’s and Collective Shelters through assessing needs, assisting in designing and facilitating activities, and reach out to community members through field visits. Key Responsibilities NRC is operating a Community Center in Arsal that is providing non-formal education and psychosocial support activities for newly arriving refugee children. NRC plans to use this center as its outreach and operational base to children in ITS’s and Collective Shelters, by organizing 8 Itinerant Education Units which can visit the ITS’s and Collective Shelters on a regular basis, along with setting up Temporary Learning Spaces (and renting space in private schools or by setting up classes in the tents) in collaboration with the local refugee community. The Itinerant Education Units will be composed by Syrian Teachers, NRC staff members and volunteers/animators that will develop educational, recreational, and social activities in the ITS’s and Collective Shelters, Conduct Filed visits to the ITS and Collective shelters in cooperation with EFO and EFC to define the needs. Create a safe classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate to the physical, social, and emotional development of children with an emphasis on language development and emergent literacy skills. To explain the project aims and objectives to the teachers, volunteers/ animators and beneficiaries through daily contact and the organization of regular visits and meetings. Assist in developing and maintaining relations with refugee and host communities, local authorities and other local actors. Assist in conducting and preparing mapping of relevant services being provided. Assist in conducting regular assessments (including focus group discussions, interviews, questionnaires, etc.). Assist with preparation of outreach work and conduct frequently outreach information and counselling sessions with identified communities. Organize awareness sessions for children and parents. Assist with planning work on weekly and monthly basis. Contribute to preparation of relevant documents (including brochures, information notes, information board updates) for target communities. Coordinate with all teachers, EFOs, and EFC. Coordinate with other NRC staff at field level. Assist with monitoring and following-up on the quality of services provided. Assist in designing the needed forms, questionnaires and other templates. Assist in maintaining archiving system up to date (both in hardcopies and electronically). Report weekly & monthly (or more often, if required) on activities and results to the relevant NRC staff. Carry out administrative tasks as agreed upon. Perform any other task as assigned by NRC management. Qualifications and Competences Academic and Professional Qualifications University level degree in education, social studies, or any other relevant field. Relevant Experience Minimum of 1-2 years of relevant work experience in a busy organization. Experience in psycho-social support for children’s and youth’s emotional, social, mental, and spiritual needs. Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes Good communication and interpersonal skills Strong organizational and team working skills Good cultural awareness and sensitivity Highly approachable, trustworthy and confidential Good English Language level Knowledge of the NGO operations and the dynamics of the humanitarian sector is a plus Experience in community sensitization/ mobilization.
