OXFAM’S PURPOSE: To work with Oxfam’s staff to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support Oxfam’s MEAL Team (Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and learning) to ensure quality data collection from the field (Syrian refugees and/or vulnerable Lebanese) on a casual basis;
In coordination with Oxfam and its partners (in Bekaa or North Lebanon), undertake data collection for surveys (for example, baseline and endline surveys and post-distribution monitoring surveys). This will involve:
- Carrying out interviews with refugees, other vulnerable populations and possible other key informants (using questionnaires); and possibly also:
- Direct observation, for instance of water and sanitation facilities (using provided observation tools);
- Conducting Focus Group Discussions (using provided guide);
Perform the data entry into prescribed format (normally Excel or Word) after the data collection.
Any other ad-hoc tasks related to data collection and data processing
Casual data collectors / data entry clerks will be required to attend relevant training sessions organized by Oxfam’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning (MEAL) team.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:
Currently pursuing or recently completed Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, or a relevant field from a recognised university;
Experience in research (quantitative and qualitative) is an advantage;
Experience in data collection and/or data entry in particular is an advantage;
Excellent knowledge of and practical experience with MS Office, especially with Excel (Excel 2003, 2007 or 2010).
Good command in English and Arabic (reading, writing and speaking). Solid speaking and reading skills in Arabic are an absolute must;
Experience working with refugees or disadvantaged people is preferable;
Strong commitment to gender equality and social justice, including to Oxfam’s mission;
Excellent ability to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, and excellent interpersonal skills;
Ability to work under pressure, ability to prioritize and commitment to meet deadlines;
Potential and flexibility of attitude towards learning.
