Early Grade Literacy And Numeracy Consultant

Purpose of the Consultancy The purpose of the consultancy is to support the start-up of a non-formal education programme in Akkar district, for Syrian refugee and vulnerable Lebanese children. The Consultant will provide training for Concern’s Education Programme staff on early grade literacy methodologies, and input into adapted curriculum for a basic literacy and numeracy course.  The Consultant is expected to deliver the training at Concern’s office in Halba, Akkar, and make frequent visits to the office location throughout their contract. Timeline                                                                                                                                                                                                                                        - May 15 to June 14, 2014                         - Hours to be determined                           Terms of Reference   Train Concern’s Education Programme staff on early grade literacy teaching methodologies. In coordination with the Education Team Leader, develop a training course for the programme staff on early grade literacy teaching methodologies. The training module should be adapted to the context of education in emergencies, and include participant evaluation to demonstrate what has been learnt. Deliver the training to the programme staff in an engaging and participatory manner.   Contribute to a training module for field teachers, by providing training modules and materials specifically on early grade literacy methodologies.   Provide input into Concern’s Curriculum Adaptation Strategy Review Concern’s Curriculum Adaptation Strategy for basic literacy and numeracy and make recommendations for improvement. Review the final student books and teacher manuals to be implemented for basic literacy and numeracy, and make recommendations for improvement.  Essential Skills, Qualifications, Experience Required  Minimum Master’s Degree  in an Education-related field  from a reputable university   Ongoing professional development as evidenced by increased work-related responsibility, continuing education, and/or participation in professional organizations A genuine commitment to teacher education and language development Minimum 5 years working experience specifically  within early grade literacy and numeracy teaching Practical experience in curriculum design and materials development Demonstrated and practical experience of training teachers in early grade literacy and numeracy Fluent English, and Arabic. Strong empathy skills and genuine care and respect for needs of others especially children refugees
