Communication Officer

PURPOSE OF POSITION:  To research and produce communications materials about World Vision Lebanon programmes, activities, events and initiatives and provide these to the Communications Manager, the Regional Communications Team and the World Vision partnership. Assist in implementing World Vision Lebanon’s media, visibility, branding, child protection and communications policies.  MAJOR TASKS:  In response to regional, support office and/or global centre requests, research, write and, as appropriate, publish, feature and news stories about successes and needs in World Vision projects In response to regional, support office or global centre requests, take, caption, upload and, as appropriate, publish, photos and videos about successes and needs in World Vision projects Regularly pitch story, photo and other resource ideas through the Share Web site. Ensure these materials are published to the World Vision Lebanon Web site as appropriate. Introducing the C4D concept in audiovisual resources whenever possible. Ensure World Vision is being the features and mentioned in local and international media. Write and disseminate press releases to local, regional and/or international media as appropriate. Support regional and support office media relations initiatives. Develop and maintain professional contacts and relationships with journalists through regular visits and meetings (one visit per month); Host media representatives during WV events Represent WV as spokesperson in media interview Work with Communications Manager on new ideas to pitch to media on a quarterly basis Identify and develop professional contacts and personal relationships with leading bloggers; Manage World Vision Social Media  Host international and local media and press outlets representatives as per WVL comms protocol Produce the annual report at the end of each fiscal year with subsequent presentation Produce an internal newsletter Represent WVL in regional calls /webex. Conduct Communications training to staff.  EDUCATION / SKILLS REQUIREMENTS: Diploma or degree in journalism, communications  Knowledge and Skills Very strong ability to write, edit, and speak English. Strong computer literacy, including ability to work with Microsoft Office and web-based software. Photography skills. Cross-cultural sensitivity and understanding of social and political environment. Ability to work with minimal direction, with team members as well as alone. Ability to cope with working in a dynamic and changing environment. Ability to exhibit exemplary lifestyle as interpreted in specific local cultural context. Computer literate, be at least familiar with MS Office software package  Experience Three years experience working in communications or journalism or a related field. Previous experience writing, editing and/or publishing articles and taking photos.
