Project Assistant - Beirut

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011, and the Bekaa valley since February 2012. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities and rehabilitation of collective shelters. Under the project “Mitigating the Socio-economic Impact of Syrian Displacement” funded by the World Bank which activities are as follows: 1. Capacity building on local level to provide livelihood support to community members through livelihood activities Market assessment implemented to identify jobs and income generation opportunities to severely affected host and refugee populations Implementation of 5 Cash for work projects for both host and refugees population Provision of livelihood support to 300 women from both the host and refugee communities. 2. Capacity building on the local level to provide support to Social Development Centers (SDC) active in the North, Bekaa Valley and South Lebanon.   Build local capacity of 5 SDCs to lead emergency preparedness and response to crises and leading local coordination In collaboration with MoSA, assist and oversee the training component of the project and provision of IT and communication equipment to local SDCs. 3. Training and mentoring of 30 staff members at affected SDCs on emergency preparedness and response.   DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Project Assistance - Beirut, to support its activities.   General Responsibility Assist in the implementation of project activities for both project components. In coordination with the project manager, assist the livelihood officer and the capacity building officer in carrying out specific duties related to their scope of work. Follow-up on the progress of work through continuous field visits and coordination with local partners and the DRC team Assist in all administrative and logistics support related to project activities Assist in the preparation and coordination of workshops and trainings with the DRC team and local partners Assist in organizing information and the collection of data, preparing and maintaining records and documents related to project activities.   Project Implementation and Monitoring Assist the project manager and officers in tracking contractors and the progress of the work.Assist in fulfilling procurement and logistics procedures (in accordance with DRC standards) required for implementation of project activities. Reporting Report back as often as needed to the project’s officers and project manager on the progress of work Assist in the preparation of reports.   Finance Assist in monitoring expenditure, budgets and expense tracking activities for the sub projects and help to ensure the expenses are not exceeding the approved budget. Assist the project manager in  payments of expenses, payment schedule and instalments.   Others Participate in crosscutting activities inside DRC Lebanon when requested; Any other duties relating to the nature of the job as directed by the Project Manager   Communication and Workplace Skills  Proven ability to speak and write English and Arabic  Teamwork Good interpersonal and multitasking skills  Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues on team agendas, provide support to team members and act in accordance with the final group decision.  Ability and willingness to travel to target areas where project activities are taking place. Ability to establish and maintain effective partnerships and work relations. Planning & Organization Ability to prioritize competing demands and to plan while respecting deadlines.
