Save the Children currently implements programs in Child Protection, Education, CRC, Health and Nutrition, Food Security & Livelihood, Shelter, and Emergency Response throughout Lebanon.
Save the Children is seeking qualified candidates to fulfill the following positions, for its Lebanon Country Office, in the following locations Beirut, Tripoli, Akkar and Bekaa:
ROLE PURPOSE:
Be responsible for the implementation and follow up of hygiene promotion activities and distribution of hygiene materials in communities targeted by Save the Children in the area described above. The post is specifically oriented towards the WASH emergency response in the context of Lebanon, and special attention will be given to integrate water, sanitation and hygiene work with Save the Children’s core sectors such as shelter, health, education and child protection.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
Contribute to accurate, well-informed needs assessments:
Participate in WASH needs assessments through personal interviews at household level, facilitation of focus group discussions, visits to sites, and meeting with key members of targeted communities
Provide support to high quality WASH programme design and implementation:
Implement hygiene promotion activities such as:
Direct animation of community hygiene promotion sessions
Identification, support and follow-up activities conducted by community hygiene promotion volunteers
Assist with training of trainers in hygiene promotion (for community volunteers, water committee members, teachers, health workers…)
Assist with setting up of hygiene clubs and hygiene promotion activities in schools
Supervision of clean-up campaigns
Conduct community mobilisation for all WASH-related activities in the operational area
When required, support the distribution of WASH kits to targeted households and institutions
Support Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability and Learning for WASH programmes:
Participate in initial and final surveys to study people’s level of knowledge, attitudes and practices regarding hygiene issues
Participate in post-distribution monitoring following the disbursement of kits
Gather and report data on a weekly basis in order to measure project and strategic indicators (for example: number of beneficiaries, number and type of activities completed)
Ensure programme activities are documented:
Provide a weekly report to line manager.
Ensure coordination and team work is created and maintained:
Make joint visits with other WASH and Save the Children programme staff, such as Education, Child Protection and NFI teams.
Adhere to Save the Children policies and procedures:
Comply with Save the Children policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedures.
In agreement with your line manager, perform other duties within reason (in line with your skills and experience).
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE AND ATTRIBUTES
Required:
Professional experience of 3 years minimum, including 1 year in a field related to public health, communication and behaviour change
Degree or other relevant qualification in public health, communication or training
Good computer skills
Ability to listen and adapt
Excellent facilitation skills
Fluent in spoken and written Arabic.
The capacity and willingness to be extremely flexible and accommodating in difficult and sometimes insecure working circumstances.
Commitment to the aims and principles of Save the Children. In particular, a good understanding of the Save the Children mandate, a child focused approach and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support
Desirable:
Experience in WASH and of working with NGOs
Good knowledge of spoken and written English
Direct experience in Save the Children’s area of operation
