Founded in 1982, Search for Common Ground (SFCG) is the largest dedicated international non-governmental organization working in the field of conflict transformation. Operating within 34 countries, SFCG uses creative, multi-faceted approaches to help divided communities understand differences while working toward commonalities. SFCG has been working in Lebanon since 2008 and works to promote social cohesion through a combination of leadership initiatives, journalism, and conflict sensitivity training.
Summary of Position
SFCG is looking for a short term Project Associate for a period of 2 to 3 months. The project associate will be supporting the Project coordinator in the implementation of the initial phase of a project which aims to strengthen the Security Sector Reform process in Lebanon. This includes regular interaction with local stakeholders and networking contacts with local actors and institutions in the area of Ras Beirut.
Responsibilities - Assist Project Coordinator in the mapping of local stakeholders in the area of Ras Beirut;
- Organise and carry out interviews/meetings with key local actors;
- Assist in the identification of key individuals and/or groups in the Ras Beirut area;
- Maintain updated and thorough record of meetings;
- Maintain regular written and oral reporting with Project Coordinator and SFCG’s Country Director;
- Develop and maintain project records such as databases, reports and records of decisions.
As job descriptions cannot be exhaustive, the position holder may be required to undertake other duties that are broadly in line with the above key duties.
Requirements and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in a related area (Master’s Degree preferred), preferably in conflict resolution, international studies, peace-building, human rights or related area.
- Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.
- Personal knowledge of the Ras Beirut area, preferably permanent citizen of this area.
- Wide and diverse network within the Ras Beirut community.

• Proven ability to negotiate multiple relationships with various community stakeholders. • Demonstrated knowledge of the Ras Beirut area and its community composition. • Dynamic leader with creative problem solving skills, particularly in challenging situations. • Excellent interpersonal and networking skills, with a specific focus on the Ras Beirut area.
• Spoken and written fluency in English and Arabic.
