Safety And Security Committee For Lebanon (Sscl) – Analyst

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental and nonprofit organization, founded in 1956, that works in more than 30 countries around the world. DRC has been operating in Lebanon since 2004, working with Palestinian and Iraqi refugees, as well as Lebanese communities affected by the war in 2006. DRC is committed to basic humanitarian principles; including impartiality and neutrality, and offers the highest standards of accountability to the people it serves. DRC Lebanon has been assisting the Syrian displaced, fleeing Syria into northern Lebanon, since May 2011, and the Bekaa valley since February 2012. This assistance has come through the provision of food and non-food items, various outreach activities and rehabilitation of collective shelters. DRC is inviting local candidates to apply for the position of Safety and Security Committee for Lebanon (SSCL) –   Analyst / Beirut , to support its activities under the project "Emergency Response for Displaced Syrians in Lebanon". Job Description SSCL is an initiative of to establish an organization that provides critical environmental analysis to members and clients, so that they can make informed policy and operational decisions. SSCL intends to achieve this through establishing an interactive platform that provides analysis on Lebanon and it’s regional environment as it relates to SSCL member activities. SSCL and its products are Predictive, Enabling and Innovative. SSCL is formed from International Non-Governmental Organizations (INGOs), International Organizations (IO, Development and Humanitarian) and Civil Society Organizations in Lebanon. The SSCL is hosted and chaired by the Danish Refugee Council (DRC).   The Analyst is responsible for information collection, collation, management and analysis, including production of a range of SSCL analytical products, such as mapping, presentations, podcasts and other new media formats The Analyst will also be responsible for the management of the national SSCL office. This includes oversight of national logistics and administration. The Analyst with frequently travelto the three regional offices (Akkar & North, Beqaa and South). Responsibilities: •                Work closely with SSCL -Executive Committee, Chair, Coordinator and Area Risk Advisors (ARA); •                Liaise with relevant SSCL stakeholders and interlocutors, such as the United Nations (UN), Government of Lebanon, Donors and independent analytical bodies; •                Coordinate the collection of information; •                Manage and collate incident reporting from, and advice to, SSCL members; •                Assuring quality of SSCL service to members and quality of product; •                Responsible as the point of contact for SSCL information management, database and product development; •                Be prepared to act as SSCL Coordinator in their absence; •                Produce intellectually rigorous and best-practice analytical product in support of SSCL; •                Competently handle new media and develop new media based product; •                Develop and Conduct database management; •                Produce complex and predictive systems of indicator and warnings relevant to Lebanon’s environment; •                Ensure technical quality and accuracy of SSCL reporting; •                Monitor open sources to produce contextual analysis of Analysis; •                Capacity build SSCL member staff in reporting and information management; and •                Represent the SSCL to relevant clusters, agencies and ministries on issues, as and when required. Required: Education - Bachelor level qualification in Politics, International Relations, Communications or Information Technology, in lieu of a relevant bachelor combined with 2 or more years’ experience in public or private sector in information management and production of multi-media format analysis or in communications. Experience - 1 to 3 years of experience in managing databases, including managing collection, analyze and distribute information relevant to humanitarian, development or government policy and operations. Familiarity with UN, INGO, Pakistan or Donor security management systems highly desirable.   Skills Required - Understanding of the Lebanon context; - Strong information technical, planning, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills; - Fluent in methods of handling information and communication with new technologies; - Excellent initiator, able to manage multiple tasks; - Able to work under pressure and good at timely decision making; - Excellent written and spoken English and Arabic, French spoken desirable; - Competent in the use Microsoft Office and; new and social media; - Familiarity with conflict management, protection, or other related development & humanitarian fields is a plus; - Trustworthy, sensitive, discreet and confidential; - Excellent professional approach and strong team building skills; - Strong coordination and representation skills and well versed in convincing and clarification of views and points; - Embraces culturally diversity and highly tolerant; and - A sense of humor is absolutely mandatory   IMPORTANT NOTE: SSCL is not a Private Security Company and will not consider the following applicants (A) Applicants with experience only in physical security, weapons and tactics (B) Applicants with only military or police work experience Application Guidlines Applications should include a detailed CV and a cover letter that addresses the applicant’s motivation for applying.  Please forward the application, in English, marked "SSCL Analyst - Beirut" to the following e-mail address: vacancy@drclebanon.dk.  The deadline for submission is Monday, Jan 20 2014.
