Position: Community Nutrition Promoter
Reports to: Team Leader of the mobile team/Program Manager
Location: Multiple locations in Lebanon
About RI: Relief International (RI), an international relief and development agency with cross-sectoral programs bridging relief and development currently seeks Community Nutrition Promoters for RI’s health and nutrition programming in Lebanon in response to the Syria crisis.
Position Summary:
The Community Nutrition Promoter will be responsible for planning and implementation of household and community health and nutrition education in RI’s health and nutrition operation area in Lebanon, focusing on Syrian refugees and vulnerable host communities. They will also ensure comprehensive mobilisation of the community for nutrition screening of children under five and pregnant/lactacting women for prevention and treatment of malnutrition.
Responsibilities:
Perform screening of the nutritional status children under five and pregnant/lactating women in their designated locations
Know how to do anthropometric measurements for nutrition, including weight, height and weight-for-height (WFH), and middle upper arm circumference (MUAC) of children under five and pregnant/lactating women
Coordinate and collaborate with mobile team leader and PHC in implementing follow-up from community outreach programme (follow-up of absentees and specific “at risk” children)
Follow up with the new admission of malnourished children
Ensure liaison with existing community structures, groups and individuals, eg TBAs, women groups, CBDs, religious leaders where possible.
Collect and track weekly data at community level, including the results of MUAC screening during house-to-house visits, in accordance with RI standard nutrition statistical reporting forms
Refer selected malnourished children and pregnant/lactating women to mobile clinics
Submit weekly nutrition and health report to the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer
Provide training on the use of Ready-to-Use Food (RUST) such as Plumpy Sup Supplementary for nutritional rehabilitation of moderate acute malnutrition to the mothers of moderate malnourished children from 6 months
Provide training on the use of oral rehydration solution (ORS) to the caretakers of dehydrated children at home.
Provide training on preparation and use of F-75 Therapeutic Milk for nutritional rehabilitation of severe acute malnutrition (SAM) to the mothers of children under five children with SAM.
Conduct regular home visits for the severely malnourished children to ensure that all malnourished children are receiving food according to the calculation guidelines and getting timely treatment at home
Follow referrals of all severely malnourished children to the stabilization center
Perform follow-up MUAC measurements on all malnourished children and pregnant/lactating women receiving at-home treatment.
Keep defaulter tracing for malnourished children
Report any problems in a timely manner to the mobile team leader or the Monitoring & Evaluation Officer
Participate in the field work of the nutrition survey (impact assessment)
Provide Health & Nutrition Education to project beneficiaries.
Perform any additional duties as requested by supervisor
To assist RI mobile team during regular visits to the location:
- To perform screening of the nutritional status under five children and pregnant/lactating women
- To give training on food preparation and hygiene to mothers
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS
Nutrition certificate
Share the humanitarian mission of the organization
Good communication skills
Ability to communicate with vulnerable populations
Proven experience in related field
Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team
Accuracy and promptness in performing duties
English writing and speaking skill preferred
Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications, will be paid on daily rate, according to number of days worked.
