Child Protection Case Worker

Background - The Child Protection Case Worker is a key position in the SGBV project, ensuring the provision of comprehensive and appropriate case management support services available to vulnerable children and youth, including survivors of gender based violence (GBV), in an emergency context. General duties and responsibilities: - The Child Protection Case Worker (CP CW) will be responsible to manage the overall Child Protection (CP) Case Management component of the Sexual Gender Based Violence project in Beirut. The CP CW works directly with children in the INTERSOS Centres (Child Friendly Spaces (CFS) or other identified premises) where the CP social workers carry out recreational, non-formal education and awareness sessions activities with children. In cases where there are no CFSs, the CP case worker liaises directly to other service providers present in the premise (health and /or legal providers, etc.) who supports refugee and host community most vulnerable families and children. - Ensures that Child Protection principles are understood, enacted, maintained and enforced in the INTERSOS Centers. - Is the visible link between the INTERSOS Centre, multi-sectoral service providers and the whole community, Syrian refugee and host Lebanese Community. Specific duties and responsibilities: Child and Women Centers: - The Child Protection Case Worker (CP CW) will respond to the needs of the children most at risk or survivors of GBV by ensuring quality case management and referral. More specifically, the CP CW will provide direct support and care for vulnerable children (including survivors of gender based violence), including counseling and case management services: o Assessment of needs, developing an action plan, implementing the plan, appropriate following and case closure (if and when appropriate) - CP CW will coordinate whenever necessary with the CP social workers as well as with the Mobile team Community Mobilizers (for both CP and Gender Based Violence (GBV) projects) to propose awareness sessions and information sharing to the community. - The CP CW ensures regular monitoring of the progress and evolution of the Child Well Being with strict follow-up, reviews of children’s files. - The CP CW officer works in close collaboration with the Psychologist and ensures that trends are communicated to develop adapted and contextualized CP awareness messages to parents, families, key actors and community (host and refugee). - Ensures children under her/his responsibility are not exposed to any form of harm or stress during the individual meeting. The CP CW respects the 4 guiding principles of respect, confidentiality, non-discrimination and safety. - Work with children and for children. During all the time with the children: a. welcome them and listen to them b. play with them when considered helpful c. guide them in the respect of the Child Best Interest d. work hard to make them feel comfortable and in trust - Plan and manages individual meetings with children that are: a. adapted to the age of the children b. adapted to the physical and mental capacities of the children c. adapted to the needs of the children - Assists, plans, organizes and participates in activities with the children in the Child Friendly Spaces (wherever CFSs are available) or in other identified premises. Case Management: - Contributes within the CFS and other identified premises to the identification of project targeted children, manages CP cases and refers to other service providers dealing with child protection resources. Administration: - In strict reporting to the Field Activities Coordinator, ensuring that a monthly expenditure sheet is prepared and delivered to INTERSOS National GBV Coordinator for: process in acquiring Purchase Requests and Payment Vouchers for the Unconditional Cash Assistance for at risk Children and their care givers and SGBV Survivors. - Ensure that all other relevant financial documentation is completed accurately as required. Reporting: - Informs CP and GBV National Coordinators about any difficulty met in INTERSOS activities implementation. - Work closely with the Information management staff member to collect and analyze the reported cases: these must be done is strict respect of the mentioned 4 guiding principles and stored in a safe and confidential place. - Provide in respect of planed timeline, the program activities (weekly report of daily activities), CP case management intake form and follow-up questionnaire (weekly filled). - Collect from CP social worker information about vulnerable cases. - Coordinate and write the weekly or monthly evaluation report. Meeting: - Be available to participate in meeting in the centre or in Beirut INTERSOS Office. - Be available for eventual training provided by INTERSOS and provide technical support to the social worker (in CFSs) through punctual training and coaching identifying lessons learned and best gateways to reach and detect CP cases. - Meets with other program staff as required: conducts weekly CP and GBV CW coordination meetings with other members of INTERSOS team members (within the CP and GBV projects). - Coordination and representation: Attend the bi-weekly Protection / CP coordination meetings in Hosh UNHCR premise when required. - Maintain positive coordination and relationships with partners by liaising and collaborate with other INGO and NGO CW when required. A high degree of flexibility on the part of all staff is expected in order to respond to the ever-evolving situation. This job description may change based on the situation in the field. He/she can be asked required to perform other related duties as identified by his supervisor.
