Job purpose
The IFRC MENA Zone is seeking an experienced, dynamic and committed candidate for the position of Gender and Diversity Officer, herein ‘Officer’. The Officer shall support gender and diversity action in cooperation with Red Cross Red Crescent National Societies in the region. The framework of this action consists of two parts: firstly to ensure that senior leadership, senior management, staff and volunteers demonstrate commitment to including gender and diversity perspectives at all levels of programmes and operations; and secondly, to support National Societies to improve mainstreaming of gender and diversity considerations into community-based programmes and emergency interventions.
The Officer will work closely with the IFRC MENA Zone Gender Advisor (“Gender Advisor”) to use gender analysis as the way to ensure that all beneficiaries' needs have been assessed and considered when developing program plans. The Officer shall base her/his work on existing gender mainstreaming tools including the IFRC Strategic Framework on Gender and Diversity Issues, Gender and Diversity Support Plan to National Societies for 2014 (Dubai, 2013), MENA Consultation on Gender Awareness and Gender Mainstreaming (Aqaba, 2011), and gender mainstreamed MENA Disaster Management Manual, and other relevant tools to be developed subsequently.
Job duties and responsibilities
1- Support programme sectors (Disaster Management, Health and Care, Psychosocial Support, National Society Knowledge and Development, etc.) to ensure that gender and diversity issues including violence prevention are adequately identified and addressed.
2- Provide substantive support to reviewing project proposals to ensure robust inclusion of gender and diversity issues and to ensure compliance with donor requirements for gender mainstreaming e.g. ECHO Gender and Age Marker.
3- Support and/or lead on the design and delivery of trainings and other capacity building exercises for IFRC and National Society staff and volunteers on concepts related to gender, diversity and interpersonal violence prevention.
4- Lead on regular communications with the MENA Gender Network through e-newsletter, ‘el Nashra’.
5- Organize translation of key materials to promote accessibility across the MENA Zone.
6- Report, liaise and represent (internal and external) where required.
7- This position will report to the IFRC MENA Zone Gender Advisor.
8- The work will be pursued in conjunction with MENA National Societies’ gender focal points within the MENA Gender Network, and with the Federation Global Gender Network and Senior Officer in Gender and Diversity at the Secretariat level (Programme Services Department).
