Event And Communication Officer

A Support Body to the Municipality of Jounieh was created by a group of professional volunteers (Core Group) with the aim to provide support related to strategic planning, implementation and community participation around urban planning and developmental issues. The Communication Officer under the responsibility and in collaboration with the Core Group will be responsible for managing the various communication strategies developed jointly with the Municipality. He/She will be responsible for leading all internal and external advertising, communication, events and public relations activities for the municipality.   Duties I. Coordinate the implementation of communication strategy and material Supports the Core Group and the Mayor’s office in the development of the municipality communication and event strategy Contributes to the development of the communications portfolio business plan and budget and maintain an oversight in the implementation of the overall communication strategy Develops contacts and outreach activities with governmental/ private/civil society counterparts; coordinates with all colleagues involved in networking and ensures a systematic recording of contacts and activities conducted Organising/managing/facilitating media conferences in line with the media strategy Supports the coordination and management of the Mayor’s interaction with the media and ensure media plans for Mayor’s key events Coordinates the preparation of the Mayor’s presentations and media briefings Coordinates the development of communication tools / material in support to the Municipality activities and projects, and ensures their timely availability Coordinates the development and dissemination of media statements and the preparation of media packages Works closely and collaboratively with all departments in the development (i.e., writing, editing, proofreading, translation, design, and approval) of communications materials (in both French and English and Arabic) Coordinates the publishing of English/French/Arabic publications including content development, writing, editing, proofreading, and translation, and working with the designer/printer, etc. Coordinating the preparation of audio-visual and printed material: Documentaries, banners, and brochures. Prepares / edits / monitors content for municipality website and all social media portals relevant to municipality audience (Facebook / Twitter / Instagram/ etc.) Develop municipal banners and campaign tools II. Develop and coordinate all municipal and community events (Protocol, Cultural, Educational, Town Hall meetings, etc.)   Supports the Core Group and the Mayor’s office in the development the annual calendar of events (Protocol, Cultural, Educational, Town Hall meetings, etc.) Understands markets/community to identify opportunities for events Establishes outreach to potential experts (artists, public speakers, entertainment specialist, etc.) / sponsors / and partners. Produces detailed proposals for events (e.g. program, timelines, venues, suppliers, staffing and budgets) Manages the budget in close coordination with Municipality or relevant partner Coordinates with marketing and PR colleagues to promote the event; Coordinates the brand development for the event and the production of tickets, posters, catalogues and sales brochures; Coordinates suppliers, handling queries and troubleshooting on the day of the event to ensure that all runs smoothly;   Minimum Requirements University degree in marketing and/or public relations or communications and/or journalism and/or Graphic Design and / or Cultural Event specialist Minimum of 5 years communications/event coordination experience Professional level writing and editing skills Advanced knowledge and experience in communications, including publications, program planning, event planning, media relations, communications research and program education and evaluation Advanced handling of social media tools and communication (including Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) Advanced computer skills in the following; Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook, Illustrator and various Internet and research tools as well as the ability to learn new applications as required. Experience in  design is an asset Able to make well informed decisions and solve problems in situations of varying complexity in a timely manner. Ensure decisions are made based on policies, processes, and organizational directives Excellent interpersonal and communications (verbal and written) skills. Strong time management skills (to coordinate multiple projects and deadlines) and ability to achieve results in a fast paced, deadline oriented environment. Self-starter, exercise good judgment, maintain confidentiality Detail oriented, creative problem solving Experience in working with public sector institutions or Non-governmental Organizations is an asset.
