Protection Team Leader (Bekaa)

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY: The Protection team leader will conduct and oversee community-based monitoring activities with a district team of 5 monitors.  Team leaders will be responsible for the oversight of monitor’s collection, monitoring and reporting of information both at the individual family and community level through focus group discussions, interviews for individual families and monitoring surveys. Information to be collected related to refugees will include the following topics: Population profile and pattern of displacement Community perceptions, capacities and participation in public life Physical security and protection Vulnerable groups and special needs Food, water, shelter, health and education Access to justice and equality before the law Self reliance, housing and property Durable solutions   ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Conduct individual interviews with vulnerable individuals and family members, and with community leaders while using efficient technology such as tablet computers or smartphones Lead focus group discussions, organized separately for men, women and children on an average of 10 persons per focus group Participate in self-care sessions with Syrian outreach workers, psychosocial assistants, psychologists, local partners and community actors; Liase with other protection and psychosocial support professionals in Beqaa/ Nabatiyah coordination meetings as directed. Establish good relationships between local teams and targeted communities Target ministries, local authorities and INGOs to raise protection awareness in order to improve the accessibility of public services for the refugee population. Collect regular detailed progress reports and bi-weekly reports with monitoring updates and trends seen in the field from monitors and submit reports to area managers. In target areas where there is an identified gap, support the building service provision/ referral mechanisms for vulnerable populations Assist in the development of partnerships with refugee and host community leadership and local CSOs to address urgent local protection concerns at unions of municipalities’ level. Participate in training on knowledge, skills and application of interagency Protection standards as directed by the area manager. Establish partnerships with local CSOs to identify and respond to key protection issues and trends. Meet with Mercy Corps staff on regular basis and participate in team meetings. Attend relevant workshops and trainings as instructed Ensure the close coordination and sharing of information with the various activities of the MC and UNHCR program staff Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission; Other duties as assigned;
