Job Title:                              Translator and Communications Officer Location:                              Akkar district, North Lebanon Reports to:                           Assistant Country Director Staff Reporting:                     nil Job Status:                           Temporary – 6 months    Job Summary                     This is a support function in terms of providing a service to the programme and operations teams for a temporary period.  The post-holder will provide high level translating and interpreting services between English and Arabic. It is possible that the post-holder will be privy to private and sensitive information and will need to be able to maintain confidentiality.  The post holder may be required to undertake some routine administrative tasks in addition to the function of translator.      Duties and Responsibilities     1.  Translation and interpreting services a)      Upon request, translate documents from English to Arabic and Arabic to English b)      Upon request, work with staff, service providers and beneficiaries to provide accurate and professional interpreting services.  This could include in meetings, interviews, field visits, group discussions etc   2.  As directed by senior management, prepare communication materials to represent and promote Concern’s work in Lebanon amongst external stakeholders a)      Become familiar with the information needs of different external audiences b)      Under guidance of Country Director/Programme Manager liaise with Concern Head Office communications and fund-raising teams to develop information briefs for Head Office c)       Participate in the development of case studies to illustrate Concern’s work d)      Provide photo images and videos to illustrate Concern’s work in line with Concern’s Image Use policy e)      Prepare layout and copy for brochures, posters, pamphlets etc and oversee their production by selected printers/ promotions companies f)       In coordination with the Accountability Officer, support Concern to meet its minimum quality and accountability requirements in emergencies   3.    Undertake routine administrative tasks as required.  This could include filing, minor office purchases, assisting office set up, scheduling meetings and interviews etc   4.      To adhere to the standards of conduct outlined in the Programme Participant Protection Policy and Concern Code of Conduct.   5.      Undertake other appropriate tasks that support the work of Concern in Lebanon as requested   Skills, Qualifications, Experience and Attitude Required Recognised tertiary qualifications in English language, media, communications or related discipline At least three years experience in related field Experience translating documents and providing oral translation services between English and Arabic Previous experience working with humanitarian organisations is desirable Excellent computer skills in a MS Office and good command of email Ability to work calmly and efficiently under pressure to meet tight deadlines Excellent oral and written communicationskills in Arabic and English.
