Advocacy And Media Coordinator – Regional Gender Equality Programme

  KEY RESPONSIBILITIES   Advocacy, media & lobbying (1)  Work with the advocacy and media officers and local partners and support them to develop and deliver effective and creative advocacy and media strategies against clear monitoring and evaluation criteria, which include a wide range of campaigning and media activities. (2)  Initiate, build and maintain relationships with national stakeholders and engage effectively with both development and humanitarian actors to communicate and encourage change of practice. (3)  Carry out research on key decision makers in the Jordan, Lebanon and Syria and their policy agendas so as to target action based advocacy strategies more effectively. (4)  Carry out direct lobbying work and assist the Oxfam GB media unit and country office as agreed by the Regional Director. (5)  To generate regular high quality media and digital communications coverage, both locally and regionally through e.g. press releases, reactive lines, press conferences, media briefing, digital communication campaigns, visits of media to programme etc and to monitor and to evaluate coverage generated. (6)  Provide training and capacity building for partners, beneficiaries and women’s rights organisations as needed. (7)  Develop and socialize a comprehensive monitoring framework which will enable the Regional Gender Equality Hub to gauge the impact of their campaigns.          Coordination & alliance building (8)  Develop and maintain alliances with other humanitarian agencies regarding intercommunity dialogue work. (9)  Carry out outreach work to build relationships with a range of other agencies, communities and people in the UK and more widely. (10) Engage and build a strong relationship with the local and regional media,     Research & communications   (11)       Work with advocacy staff in other organisations relevant to the region to develop common analysis and shared learning with a view to converting these into policy recommendations for regional and international advocacy targets. (12)       Ensure that learning from policy and advocacy in the region reflects programme directions   SKILLS AND COMPETENCE:   Essential Masters degree in social science, gender and development and/or other relevant fields At least five years of work experience, including policy influencing, networking and alliance building with other agencies in complex political emergencies (field level experience). Excellent communication skills and an ability to write clearly and precisely in both Arabic and English. In depth knowledge of Middle East context and key issues, including gender in the region Understanding of aid architecture and humanitarian refugee response. Experience of working with media to communicate issues which affect women in the region. proven track record of developing and implementing advocacy and media strategies Administrative and word-processing skills, including use of the Internet, and organise, plan and prioritise work and work to deadlines without day-to-day supervision. Proven analytical skills, ability in research methods and practices (including generation of statistical data), and ability to think strategically. Desirable Specialist knowledge and proven interest in specific aspects of Oxfam’s aims and active commitment to Oxfam's gender policy Demonstrable commitment and experience in inter-community dialogue and appreciation of the relevance of identity issues in development and conflict. Personal qualities that ensure effective work with other people and self-management, including flexibility, respect for others, and sense of humour.
