Première Urgence - Aide Médicale Internationale (PU-AMI) is a non-profit, non-political and non religious humanitarian NGO. Its objective is to bring about a global response to the basic needs of populations suffering from acute humanitarian crisis and to allow them to recover their autonomy and dignity.
Today, PU-AMI is intervening in 21 countries in Africa, the Near East, Caucasus, Asia and the Caribbean to cover the needs of populations affected by conflict, natural disasters or economic crises.
PU-AMI in Lebanon
PU-AMI has been active in Lebanon since 2001 implementing emergency and recovery projects in Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, in Shelter Rehabilitation and in Livelihood Recovery sectors.
PU-AMI is currently working in a Shelter and Wash projects in the Palestinian camps and gatherings in Saida. Moreover, PU-AMI is conducting several projects in support of the areas affected by Syrian refugees’ influx in the North governorate, in Beirut, Mount Lebanon (El Metn, Baabda, Aley and Chouf districts) and South (Saida district) Governorates. The projects include rehabilitation works, water, sanitation and hygiene-related assistance, health access and food vouchers distributions. These projects are funded by the Humanitarian Aid and Civil protection department of the European Commission (ECHO), the United Nations High Committee for Refugees (UNHCR) and the World Food Program (WFP).
The UNHCR-funded project in support of the areas affected by Syrian refugees’ influx in Beirut, Mount Lebanon and Saida areas conducted by PU-AMI contains, among others, a health component, which consists in the implementation of a referral system in Mount Lebanon governorate.
POSITION GENERAL INFORMATION

OVERALL MISSION
General objective
In collaboration with the health team, along with the pharmacist, the Pharmacy field officer is responsible for ensuring an efficient daily management support to the pharmacy in the health facilities supported, respecting the medical procedures established in the framework of the project, as well as PU-AMI overall principles, in order to provide quality health services to Syrian refugees.
Responsibilities and tasks
Ø Support and monitor the pharmaceutical management of the primary healthcare centers (PHC) supported:
- Field visits for specific monitoring and evaluation issues.
- Ensure that drugs are provided with respect of the prices agreed upon by PU-AMI (according to the suppliers and MoH).
- Ensure that the drugs are bought following PU-AMI procedures, including quality assurance criteria.
- Ensure a proper stock management control: manage inventory, re-stocking (inventory, opening stock, buffer stock, stock on hand…).
- Ensure an accurate follow up of drug consumption.
- Help maintaining reasonable dispensary stock levels.
- Maintain proper drug storage in PHC stock.
- Monitor prescribed medications through written prescriptions.
- Direct supervision of the drug consumption data collection.
- Provide technical support for the implementation and management of the pharmacy activities implemented in the new PHCs.
- Propose ways to update existing pharmacy data tools and procedures in collaboration with the pharmacist.
- Report the needs of the beneficiaries in terms of access to medications.
Ø Capacity building:
- Provide technical support during trainings.
- Prepare background material for use in discussions and briefing sessions on pharmacy related issues.
- Responding to phone and face to face enquiries from supported facilities pharmacy focal points.
Ø Data collection and reporting:
- In collaboration with the pharmacist, ensure direct supervision of phamacy data collection and reporting system implemented in the health facilities.
- Prepare status and progress reports, prepare tables and draft routine correspondence.
- Participate in writing all required medical-phamarcy reports (PU-AMI, donors, partners…).
- In charge of filing and archiving.
The tasks and responsabilities of the Assistant Pharmacist mentionned above are not thorough and may be subject to evolve depending on the needs PU-AMI may have.

QUALIFICATIONS
Mandatory requirements
Ø Language Skills: Fluent in English and Arabic, (speaking/reading/writing).
Ø Education Degree: Health related degree.
Ø Work experience: Minimum experience of 2 years. Proven experience in NGOs.
Ø Computer Skills: Excellent knowledge of the MS office software including Word, Excel, Outlook.
Ø Other requirements
- Knowledge of the project cycle and logical framework.
- Knowledge in drug management.
- Ability to report activities’ indicators.
- Valid driving licence.
- Management and pedagogical skills.
- Good knowledge of Mount Lebanon districts’ geography, willing to travel locally.
