Project Overview The conflict in Syria has erupted into a full-scale civil war endangering lives in almost every community in the country. Desperate families, caught in the crossfire, are leaving everything behind and fleeing into neighbouring countries. Lebanon, one of these countries, has received a large influx of refugees from Syria. To assist the arriving Syrian refugees, Medair’s team in Lebanon intends to implement an emergency shelter project with cash for work and mapping activities in the Bekaa Valley.   Role and Responsibilities Working as an important member of a diverse team to support the project's objectives in order to create interactive maps to aid the humanitarian response to the Syrian refugee crisis. The primary responsibilities will include communication, data collection and reporting to the Project Manager.   Key Activity Areas Communication ·            Liaise with local communities on site ·            Assist in translation as needed ·            Act as coordination point for mapping information from other NGOs ·            Liaise with distribution team regarding the newly arrived refugees ·            Communicate implementation problems or issues to Project Manager Data Collection ·            Plan data collection with GIS consultant and Project Manager ·            Lead data collection and processing activities Reporting ·            Input data into ArcGIS ·            Participate in the generation of the final reporting of the project via post implementation analysis   Experience / Competencies ·            Significant experience of GIS data manipulation ·            Good working knowledge of geography and culture of the Bekaa Valley region ·            NGO or community engagement experience ·            Strong working knowledge of ArcGIS ·            Technical aptitude to pick up digital data collection methods ·            Good working knowledge of Microsoft packages ·            Passionate about serving the poor, self-motivated and a desire to further knowledge ·            Aptitude for community mobilization and engagement ·            Team-player with good interpersonal skills ·            Willing to support others and share workloads ·            Capacity to work under pressure and manage personal stress levels ·            Creative, open-minded, flexible and a self-leaner ·            Ability to adapt communication strategies for different situations ·            Able to take initiative in data collection and planning This position is based in Zahle in the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon with occasional travel to Beirut.  Office space is available but much of the work time will be in the tented settlement communities.
