Education Field Officer

Job purpose: NRC has been providing assistance to the Syrian refugees in Lebanon since mid-2011.  Reflecting the initial immediate needs identified, NRC provided mainly shelter solutions to refugees from Syria, starting in the Akkar region in the North and then expanding into the Bekaa Valley in the East.  Through its shelter work, assessments conducted and coordination with other stakeholders, NRC identified the educational and protection needs of the Syrian refugee communities.  These include (a) protection/legal concerns; (b) information and counselling needs; (c) social concerns; and (d) educational/recreational needs. Having identified a number of educational and protection needs and, from its previous experience of community centres for Iraqi refugees, NRC developed the idea of establishing community centres in order to provide services for refugees from Syria in a structured and consistent manner.  Currently, NRC has one community centre for its Syrian response in each of five locations: (1) Rama, Akkar Region; (2) Saadnayel, Central Bekaa; and (3) Aarsal, Northern Bekaa (4) Baalbek in Bekaa’.  Minieh in North, NRC is in the process of establishing a Community Center in Bazourieh area in the South. Each Community Centre provides a safe and secure space in which refugees from Syria (including Palestinian refugees, other refugees and Lebanese returnees) and Lebanese beneficiaries from the host communities may access a range of education and protection services.  The purpose of this position is to provide education services, recreational support, and life skill trainings at the Community Center.    Tasks & Major Areas of Responsibility  Plan, coordinate, and manage daily educational and recreational activities effectively. Supervise the Education Field Assistants involved in the community center in the center and in field. Plan and implement education outreach activities: need analysis, focus group discussions, and any other outreach or field activities. Implement quality education services in the centre and monitor the activities implemented by Education Field Assistants and Animators. Have a clear idea about education activities that other institutions working in the same area are carrying out with displaced Syrian. Be aware of referral mechanisms in collaboration with other NGOs and NRC Managers. Responsible of designing the needed forms, questionnaires and other templates. Responsible of maintaining the archiving system up to date (both in hardcopies and electronically). Report weekly & monthly on activities and results to Education Field Coordinator in the Area. Perform any other task as assigned by NRC managements. Experience Required At least 3 years experience in education programs (preferably in learning support programmes, recreational activities). Experience in community sensitization/ mobilization. Has worked in emergency response or with marginalized communities. Ability to work under pressure. Educational Requirements University education, in Education or in Social Science preferred. Additional Qualities a Successful Candidate Should Possess Team spirit. Trainer. Flexibility. Strong communication and organizational skills.  Strong Computer Skills (Word, Excel, Powerpoint).
