ASSIGNMENT
The Education and Child Protection Coordinator is based in Beirut with frequent field visits to the Bekaa, Beirut and South Lebanon, He/She works under the direct supervision of the Emergency coordinator and the Program Coordinators and oversees the educational and child protection programming in all the AMEL centers of the Country. S/he is responsible for the smooth implementation of the educational and child protection programs and activities in close coordination with other agencies and local authorities.
TASKS AND DUTIES
Task #1/ Support the Centers in the field in the organization of education and child protection activities:
- Assess the needs and priorities of the targeted beneficiaries and define suitable activities based on participatory approach in coordination with the education/child protection officer and the local staff;
- Introduce the Amel project model of after school support and child protection for refugee children to the Head of Center, social worker and education officer/child protection and assist them in recruiting the team of teachers and animators
- Identify training modules to be provided to teachers when needed (on mediation techniques and know how pertaining to children/youth psychosocial wellbeing among others);
- Set up appropriate timetable/schedule for psycho-social support, vocational training and educational activities
- Assess needs for supplies and materials to conduct the activities, prepare list of requirements and allocate and arrange space for the different activities;
Task #2/ Meetings/Trainings:
- Attend weekly interagency coordination meetings on Education and Protection in coordination with UNHCR, UNCEF and relevant partners
- Develop and maintain a good working relation with the Ministry of Education and local school directors
- Select suitable staff in the field on child protection trainings of Educational Partners.
- Develop and organize awareness sessions or capacity trainings on educational and child protection matters
Task #3/ Monitoring and evaluation:
- Supervise the local education officers, the teachers, the animators and the animators in assessing the impact of the activities on children by introducing evaluation tools
- Organize monthly meetings with the educational field teams and discuss challenges and project developments
Task #4/ Facilitate school enrolment
- Develop and maintain good relations with local school directors and representatives of the Ministry of Education
- Assist the education officers in organizing the enrollment of Syrian children in Lebanese public schools through Back to School Campaigns and Accelerated Learning Programs
Other duties
- Assist the Program and Emergency coordinatiors in the planning of education and child protection activities for the targeted population, including budgeting , planning, monitoring, evaluation and follow up on all educational activities of Amel Association;
- Mobilize community support and participation in the various community based activities;
- Perform other duties as may be assigned.
